Vijay Thalapathy‘s farewell film Jana Nayagan is currently encountering issues with censor approval, and the matter is under review by the Madras High Court.
On Tuesday, January 27, a Division Bench of the Madras High Court overturned a previous ruling that had instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to promptly issue censor approval for the Vijay-starring film.
According to recent reports, the film’s release may be scheduled between February 12 and February 26, 2026. The cast includes Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju, along with Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani.
Jana Nayagan Set For Release After Various Delays
Vijay’s final theatrical role in Jana Nayagan could debut in theaters around mid to late February 2026, and international distributors have been instructed to start preparing for screenings. The report also mentioned that the film’s producers are confident that Jana Nayagan will secure approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in the upcoming week.
Jana Nayagan, described as Vijay’s final film before his full commitment to politics, was initially set for a January 9 release to align with the Pongal festival. However, just a day prior to the release, the producers announced a postponement, citing unforeseen circumstances. In an official statement, the team expressed their regret over the delay and recognized the excitement surrounding the film.
KVN Productions approached the Supreme Court after a January 9 High Court ruling halted the film’s release by suspending a Single Judge Bench order that mandated the immediate issuance of a UA certificate. Shortly after, on January 15, the Supreme Court declined to consider another request from the producer contesting the Division Bench’s stay and the postponement of the final censor certificate. The case was ultimately reviewed on January 20, leaving both the producers and fans in eager anticipation.
