With less than a week remaining for its grand release on August 14, the excitement for War 2 is reaching a fever pitch. As advance bookings prepare to open nationwide tomorrow, August 10, producer Yash Raj Films (YRF) has locked in an ambitious and confident pricing strategy for the spy-action thriller, signaling their expectation of a monumental opening at the box office.
The studio has instructed cinemas to implement “mega blockbuster pricing” for the film starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. This move places War 2 in the highest ticket price bracket, reserved for only the most anticipated event films of the year.
Premium Pricing For A Premium Event Film
According to trade sources, YRF’s decision is rooted in the film’s immense anticipation and scale. A source revealed, “YRF has asked cinemas to go for mega blockbuster pricing for War 2. They feel it is justified since it is a highly anticipated film and one of the biggest films to release in India across languages and industries in 2025.” This confidence is bolstered by the film’s pan-India casting, mass appeal, and its position as the next major installment in the wildly popular YRF Spy Universe.
Exhibitors have reportedly embraced this directive, sharing the studio’s confidence in the project. The combination of a star-studded cast, the sequel factor, and a strategic release during an extended holiday period is expected to create a massive demand for tickets, justifying the premium rates. The collaboration between Hrithik and Jr NTR alone is considered a major crowd-puller.
On Par With Pushpa 2, Higher Than Pathaan
To put the “mega blockbuster” pricing into perspective, sources indicate that ticket rates for War 2 will be comparable to those of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 – The Rule. The Sukumar directorial was the last major blockbuster to command this top-tier pricing, and YRF is positioning War 2 to have the same premium feel. This strategy suggests that audiences should be prepared for some of the highest ticket prices of the year.
Interestingly, this pricing model is a step up even from YRF’s last Spy Universe blockbuster, Pathaan. For the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, the studio had opted for “blockbuster pricing,” a tier below the current strategy for War 2. This move underscores YRF’s belief that the sequel, directed by Ayan Mukerji, has the potential to surpass previous records set within its own universe and create new benchmarks at the box office.
