Directed by Ayan Mukerji, Brahmastra released on September 9 starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy, Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan. Moviegoers have applauded the film and performances, especially on VFX, Shah Rukh’s cameo appearance in a large dark room. The film landed on Disney+ Hotstar on November 4, 2022.
According to Mukerji, who spoke at the News18 Rising India summit held in New Delhi, the aim is to release the second part of the trilogy in 2026, years after the release of the first part. He further stated that the team plans to take their time to write the next two installments to ensure that they meet the expectations of the audience.
“We will make Brahmastra 2 and 3 together. The truth is we are going to take a little bit of time to write it. I know there’s a lot of anticipation. People want the (second part of the film) film to come out. But pehle achchi tarah se likhenge without compromising it. I think it will be about three years from now before we see Brahmastra 2 on the big screen,” said Mukerji.
While the first part of the movie was a visual spectacle and managed to collect Rs. 257.44 crores at the box office in India, it did receive criticism for its weak dialogues penned by Hussain Dalal. The director acknowledged the criticism and stated that they plan to improve on the writing for the next two installments.
“We did get some mixed reactions. We still did really good numbers. A lot of people accepted our film. It also did well when it came out on the streaming platform. It’s probably the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022. But I still hear that criticism very clearly. The thing is I accept and agree with some of it. Some of that criticism came down to some aspects related to the writing and story of Brahmastra. I want to understand these things and make part two better,” added Mukerji.
The announcement of the simultaneous shooting of the sequels has created a buzz among fans, who are eagerly waiting for the release of the next two installments of the highly anticipated trilogy.
