Very few people know that the first choice of Mansoor Khan’s 1995 film ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’ was not Aamir Khan and Manisha Koirala but Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. In a special conversation, Mansoor himself shared while disclosing that, “I did not want to cast Aamir and Manisha. I had Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit on my mind for Akele Hum Akele Tum. I spoke to Anil. He was thrilled.” Aamir who is Mansoor’s cousin and has already done two big films with Mansoor Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, did not like Mansoor’s casting plan for Akele Hum Akele Tum.
Mansoor says, “Aamir was like, ‘Hey, I want to do it.’ I told him that he doesn’t look like a father. You have pink lips and rosy cheeks, you don’t look like a 6 year old father.” Apart from this, when Madhuri heard the script, she refused to do the film. He said, “After listening to the entire script, Madhuri left the film. I think Indra Kumar was going to make a film with a similar plot. I think it was this relationship that he eventually formed with Anil Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor.”
“Why couldn’t Madhuri Dixit alone say no directly to you alone. In fact, I think Madhuri was anticipating the situation. She listened to my entire script just because she wanted to know how similar this relationship was. Heard the whole story. She said that she was very busy for the next two-three years. Mansoor took Aamir in the film as soon as Madhuri was out. The audience also liked the film a lot.”
Mansoor claimed that he could not imagine Aamir and Madhuri together and that Aamir and Manisha were his fallback option. He thought back to the day when he had called Anil to inform him of the cast change. He stated: “I called Anil. He was a sport. He was very very decent about being dropped.”
