Dussehra 2026 already has one high-profile festive contender, and it arrives with a deliciously offbeat hook. Amazon MGM Studios and Colour Yellow have officially unveiled Nayyi Navelli, a fantasy family entertainer led by Yami Gautam Dhar, with the film set for a nationwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026.
Today film’s release date has been announced along with first look poster.
Dussehra 2026 Gets A Fantasy Family Entertainer With A Witchy Twist
Directed by Balaji Mohan and written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma, Nayyi Navelli leans into the kind of crowd-pleasing theatrical idea that thrives during the festive corridor. The film follows a picture-perfect bride who transforms a chaotic Meerut household into paradise, only for her brother-in-law to start suspecting that the seemingly ideal new family member may actually be a daayan. With music by G. V. Prakash Kumar and production by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma, the film is being positioned as a large-scale family outing with comedy, fantasy and domestic mayhem at its core.
That Dussehra positioning is not incidental. The holiday frame has traditionally rewarded films that blend scale, emotion and repeat-watch appeal, and Nayyi Navelli is built to play squarely in that space while standing apart through its supernatural comic setup. In the official announcement, Nikhil Madhok, director and head of SVOD Originals, Prime Video India and Amazon MGM Studios, said, “As we saw Nayyi Navelli finally come together, there was an instant, collective realization that this is THE Dussehra film. No other date would do it justice.” He added, “Yami Gautam Dhar is brilliant and the talented ensemble cast has done a great job. This is our first collaboration with Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma; and they have created a remarkable movie. At Amazon MGM Studios, along with our partners at Colour Yellow, we are confident that Nayyi Navelli will be the first choice of entertainment for family audiences this Dusshera.“
Aanand L Rai echoed that tonal promise in his statement on the film, saying, “Nayyi Navelli is the kind of story that surprises you at every turn. When Himanshu and I first discussed the story, we were immediately drawn to the unique way it brings together families for a fantasy, humour and adventure-filled experience. Yami Gautam Dhar was an instinctive choice, bringing exactly the warmth and mischief the character demands. Amazon MGM Studios has delivered some groundbreaking stories and in our first collaboration with them, we can’t wait to take audiences on this wonderfully unpredictable ride.”
For Amazon MGM Studios, the announcement also signals a continued push into theatrical storytelling in India, while Colour Yellow once again returns to a rooted, high-concept space that can balance flavour, eccentricity and mainstream pull.
Yami Gautam Dhar’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Yami Gautam Dhar heads into Nayyi Navelli at a particularly interesting point in her career, having balanced star-driven theatrical films with strong streaming visibility over the past few years. OMG 2 in 2023 and Article 370 in 2024 kept her firmly in the big-screen conversation, with the latter giving her one of her most prominent recent lead outings. On the OTT front, Dhoom Dhaam in 2025 paired her with Pratik Gandhi and reinforced her ease with mainstream, high-concept storytelling. That run has given her filmography a mix of courtroom drama, political intensity and commercial comedy, making this festive fantasy turn feel like a natural expansion rather than a sharp pivot. Her 2026 slate has also included Ginny Wedss Sunny 2, listed by IMDb and Wikipedia as a release featuring Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankr in the lead cast.
