Yash’s return to the big screen with Toxic has arrived with a clear censor trail behind it. Before the film secured its A certificate for the original Kannada version on August 13, the Central Board of Film Certification ordered cuts across intimacy, violence and explicit dialogue, reducing 33 seconds of footage and altering several key moments. For a film carrying intense anticipation across markets, the certification details offer the clearest picture yet of what audiences will actually see in theatres.
Cbfc Changes In Toxic Kannada Version
The Kannada version was asked to add a disclaimer with voiceover about the nature of the story, along with anti-smoking and anti-drug caution cards in legible format. On the dialogue front, abusive words in subtitles were altered in multiple places, and the line “You want to f**k” was muted.
The visual changes were more substantial. A shot of a child committing murder and a piston-pumping scene were shortened. Physical intimacy scenes were reduced by 30 percent in seven places, while a scene featuring Raaya, Yash’s character, with a woman on a bed was cut by 50 percent. Taken together, the reductions to violent and sexual visuals amounted to 33 seconds.
Religious Imagery And Violent Shots Also Modified
The censor revisions also covered several sensitive visual details. A murder scene involving an electric saw and a scene showing a character smoking ganja were replaced with more appropriate shots. A sequence featuring a Christian Father drenched in blood was reduced. In another moment, the Holy Cross was removed from a scene in which assassins enter dressed as nuns.
Those changes did not stop with the Kannada print alone. Because the original version was certified first, the edits became the template for the film’s wider multilingual rollout.
What This Means For The Dubbed Versions
The certification sequence makes the position clear. The makers completed the Kannada version’s censor process first and then incorporated those modifications before submitting the Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam versions. That is why the dubbed certificates do not separately list the same changes, even though the visual edits extend across versions.
This makes the Kannada cut list especially important. It functions as the most detailed public record of the toned-down theatrical version that audiences across languages are expected to watch.
Why The Kannada Cut List Matters
Toxic is directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by KVN Productions along with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The cast includes Yash, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth. Positioned as a gangster action drama with the tagline Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, the film centers on Raaya and runs 194.12 minutes, or 3 hours, 14 minutes and 12 seconds.
For a star vehicle mounted on a large scale and designed for a multilingual theatrical rollout, censor details like these do more than tidy up objectionable moments. They shape the final texture of the film, especially when intensity, sensuality and stylized violence appear central to its screen identity. That makes the cut list part of the conversation around Toxic even before audiences step into cinemas.
