The makers of the 2011 comedy film Desi Boyz, starring Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, are planning to make a sequel, but with a twist. According to reports, Desi Boyz 2 will have a completely new cast and a new story, retaining only the title of the original film.
Makers to cast younger actors in Desi Boyz 2
“The makers intend to cast younger actors to cater to a new generation of viewers. The new film, however, has nothing to do with the original cast and plot. It follows a completely distinct storyline, with only similarity lying in the title, akin to the approach taken by Akshay and Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, where the title holds familiarity but the narrative bears no connection to the original Amitabh Bachchan-Govinda 1998 action-comedy,” a source revealed to Peeping Moon.
Sources say that the makers are looking for a younger ensemble to appeal to a new audience, and will approach actors once the script is finalized. The film will have no connection to the original plot, which revolved around two friends who become male escorts to cope with the recession.
Attack fame Lakshya Raj Anand to direct Desi Boyz 2
The sequel will be directed by Lakshya Raj Anand, who has previously worked with John Abraham in the action thriller Attack. Lakshya is currently working on the script of Desi Boyz 2, which is expected to be ready by the end of this year. The film will be produced by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures, Eros International, and Parag Sanghvi.
Desi Boyz 2 is one of the latest examples of Bollywood sequels that have little or no relation to the first part, such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Metro…In Dino, and Sadak 2. The original Desi Boyz, directed by Rohit Dhawan, also featured Deepika Padukone and Chitrangada Singh in the lead roles, and was a moderate success at the box office.
