Dhanush’s Karnan released in theatres on April 9 and was a phenomenal hit at the box office. This is Mari Selvaraj’s second directorial film, he made an impressive debut with the film, Pariyerum Perumal in 2018.
In addition to the critics and audience, the film now has also receiving praises from various celebrities.
Earlier this week, Bollywood’s popular director Aanand L Rai took to Twitter and applauded director Mari Selvaraj and Dhanush for their recent film, Karnan. In the post shared by the director, he called Dhanush a magician. He wrote, “OUTSTANDING & BRILLIANT…This is how you can describe this experience called #Karnan @mari_selvaraj What a storyteller The way you painted ur thoughts on the celluloid. Take a bow!! @dhanushkraja You are a magician mere bhai ..u should have told me.I thought u r an actor (sic).”

Vijay Sethupathi attended a special show of the film before its release. After watching the film, he couldn’t control his emotions and hugged Mari Selvaraj. He also held his hands and kissed him and showered praises on Karnan. Here’s what he had to say on his social media platforms –

Actress Kalyani Priyadarshan, also recently took to her Instagram after she saw the film on Amazon Prime Video and she wrote, “I was disappointed when I missed Karnan in the theaters, but I finally managed to watch it today on @primevideoin … There are some films you watch that make you proud to be in this industry and proud of your craft. This was one such film. How does @dhanushkraja sir manage to be so brilliant time and time again.. There were moments when I felt disturbed, intrigued and amazed at the same time. But in fact, isn’t that what good cinema does? #karnanonprime (sic).”

The film stars Dhanush, Lal, Yogi Babu, Natarajan Subramaniam, Rajisha Vijayan, Gouri Kishan and Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli.
A hard hitting-film, Karnan, is set in the suburbs of the Tirunelveli district and revolves around the struggles of oppressed people, who are constantly fighting for an identity in society. Reportedly, the film is based on the Majolai riots of 1999 and the Melavalavu massacre in 1997.
