As the title ‘Good Newwz‘ suggests, the story revolves around news which was supposed to be good but instead turned out being a goof-up. We’ve two couples in Varun (Akshay Kumar), Deepti (Kareena Kapoor Khan) & Honey (Diljit Dosanjh), Monica (Kiara Advani). The problem starts with their similar surname – Batra.
Because of their surnames, they involve a big goof-up. Both the couples try to go through the process of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and the doctor (Adil Hussain) swaps the sperm samples. Now both the ladies have sperms of not their husbands. What happens next is what the rest of the story is about.
Raj Mehta & Jyoti Kapoor’s writing hits the ball out of the park. It’s smart and never crosses any line in order to make bold statements. The first half is a bit on the bolder side but that makes for the superb message it delivers. At times, it drags and comedy falls flat.
Raj Mehta, for a first-timer, does a brilliant job at sending across the message. He maintains a freshness from the word go and a pace that drags very rarely. Raj, in sync, with the editing manages to boost the comical side of the film.
Sauda Khara Khara, despite being a brilliant song but it’s placed wrongly losing the impact. B Praak’s Maana Dil takes all the points for being the best & brilliantly placed song of the album. Chandigarh Mein in the credits and is a good take-off.
Production values are rich and never for a moment, you’d believe that they have a controlled budget in hand. Even the house shown in the film looks uber-cool. Manish More’s editing is tight and it doesn’t rush to execute things. John Stewart Eduri’s background score delves in well with the comical sequences.
Overall, Good Newwz is a perfect entertainer laced with comedy & has emotions at its core. Smart dialogues, astounding performances make this a must watch!
