Movie Review:
Ghost is yet another failed attempt by Vikram Bhatt at giving the Indian audiences a good horror flick. The film follows a UK-based politician of Indian origin, Karan Khanna (Shivam Bhaargava). He is charged with the murder of his wife but is adamant that his wife had lost her life at the hands of an evil spirit. His lawyer (later lover) Simran (Sanaya Irani) has a hard time proving his innocence in the court of law. As much as the film is about horror, it is also about love and trust. The film follows Simran’s attempts at proving his innocence while trying to stay alive at the same time.
Writing:
The writing of the movie by Vikram Bhatt feels slow at certain points. Some extra scenes to make the movie scary could have been avoided. The movie has nothing new in terms of writing.
Direction:
Directed by Vikram Bhatt, the movie is full of twist and turns – right till the end. While some may say this is what happens in most of his films, the picturesque London adds more charm and appeal to the film. Vikram Bhatt offered us nothing new than his usual direction in Ghost.
Music:
The music is nicely placed and doesn’t seem forced. The songs so in sync with the film’s track. The music is good but not something that will makes it way to the top of the charts for a period of time.
Technical Departments:
Bollywood has always been notorious for generating laughable CGI for their evil characters and sadly in this evil murder mystery is also laughable to certain extents. Vikram Bhatt has enough experience in the genre but fails to avoid certain clichés. Since the start of murder mystery, the plot doesn’t thicken.
Performances:
Sanaya Irani is likable as the emotional but troubled soul lawyer who recently lost her father and has an almost non-existent love life. She uses the years of experience she gained on television and makes her performance believable. Shivam Bhaargava, isn’t half as convincing as Sanaya’s character. Given this is his debut performance we can cut some slack but not too much. Caroline Wilde, who plays the ghost in the film, leaves a memorable impact.
Verdict:
Ghost offers nothing new, neither in terms of storytelling nor in evoking a fear with its thrills and spills. This one’s another shot in the dark and doesn’t hit the bull’s eye.
