Plot
Satyaprem aka Sattu (Kartik Aaryan) is a goofy, good-hearted, good for nothing boy in his early to mid-thirties who is eager to marry Katha (Kiara Advani) but is also aware that the girl is way out of his league. She is the daughter of a well-known businessman. Sattu’s dreams unexpectedly come true when Katha’s parents come over to his house and ask for Sattu’s hand in marriage! But is there a reason why Katha’a parents come to offer their Katha’s hand in marriage? That is the crux of the film.
From here on starts Sattu’s tryst to get Katha to fall in love with him and how in order to keep his marriage, he ends up discovering himself and proves to be a worthy husband. Katha is struggling to forget her past which is still chasing her. Discovery of love in between these two opposite individuals form the later part of the love story.
Performances
Kartik Aaryan is first rate and this is probably his best performance till date in terms of maturity. He is witty and fun in first half and when film turns grim in second half, he handles those tough moments very maturely. Kiara Advani is again outstanding after Shershaah and Kabir Singh. She has poise which was required for this role. She might win awards for this winner of an act.
Gajraj Rao is decent as father and so is Supriya Pathak. Rajpal Yadav, Anooradha Patel and Shikha Talsania are decent.
Analysis
Film is shot very well by Ayananka Bose and every frame looks fresh. Film is crisply edited by Charu Shree Roy. Special mention for Rajat Poddar for exceptional production design as he brings location alive. Natasha Vora’s costume are apt.
Writing by Karan Shrikant Sharma is the soul of the film and it’s refreshing to see such a well written script which brings complex emotions out so well. Music by Manan Bharadwaj and Payal Dev is good and fits the film. Though one chartbuster song could had done wonder to the the film. Aaj ke Baad Is stand out song in the film as rest of the songs seem routine.
Captain of the ship, Sameer Vidwans delivers big time as director in his Hindi feature film debut. He keeps right balance between entertainment and emotions. Film never gets too shallow or over dramatic. A sensitive topic is handled beautifully by director. He is a talent to watch out for!
Verdict
SatyaPrem Ki Katha is a mature love story and it should be liked by multiplex audience for sure. Good double digit opening followed by positive word of mouth will ensure box office triumph.
