Karan Johar, Jr. NTR, Ram Charan, Siddharth Roy Kapur And Mani Ratnam Are Invited For Academy Membership

Karan Johar and Mani Ratnam are two of the biggest filmmakers of Indian cinema. Both have operated successfully on their own turf, which is north and south. Mani has also done several successful Bollywood films like Dil Se and Guru. But lately, the gap between North and South has been bridging thanks to films like Jr. NTR and Ram Charan‘s RRR. Now, all these names, as well as producer Siddharth Roy Kapur have been invited by the Academy to join as its members.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which is the governing body of the Oscar Awards, has invited these celebrities to join the organization this year in 2023. According to the website, the Academy provides membership to individuals based on their professional qualifications. They are also trying to be more inclusive by adding members from different countries.

RRR Received Massive Success In The US

SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which starred Ram Charan and Jr NTR, received an unprecedented response in the United States. Its song Naatu Naatu even went on to win an Oscar. The song had earlier bagged a Golden Globe award as well. Karan Johar, on the other hand, has been mentioned in the producer’s list while Mani Ratnam has been named among the directors. As per media reports, the 2023 class of the Academy will comprise 40% women. 34% will be for underrepresented ethnic/racial communities and 52% from 51 different countries outside of the US.
