Satyaprem Ki Katha, featuring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, has finally hit theaters today amidst high expectations. The duo had previously delivered a blockbuster with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 last year, which has raised the hopes of the trade, industry, and their fans for Satyaprem Ki Katha‘s success at the box office. Recent reports revealed that the romantic tale has obtained a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and has a runtime of 146.02 minutes, equivalent to 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 2 seconds.
After obtaining the cut list, we gained access to the requested changes by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) before granting the censor certificate for Satyaprem Ki Katha. The Examining Committee, consisting of CBFC members, highlighted seven modifications. One of the changes involved replacing the word ‘Cheliyaan’ with ‘Saheliyaan’ in the lyrics ‘Radhe Ki Cheliyaan’ from the song ‘Gujju Pataka’. Additionally, the phrase ‘Ek shot’ was considered inappropriate and was substituted with ‘Ek baar’. Interestingly, it is worth noting that the original version of the dialogue can still be seen in the movie’s trailer.
Furthermore, the dialogue containing the words ‘Ghapa Ghap’ was censored by muting them from the line ‘Uske pehle toh dono ghapa ghap…’ in Satyaprem Ki Katha. Interestingly, it was the 2018 blockbuster film Sanju, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, that popularized the expression ‘Ghapa Ghap’. In the biopic based on the life of Sanjay Dutt, Vicky Kaushal’s character uses the phrase, which was a slang term referring to sexual activity. Surprisingly, the CBFC permitted its usage in Sanju and awarded the film a U/A certificate. However, in the case of Satyaprem Ki Katha, the same words were removed.
Interestingly, Satyaprem Ki Katha released on June 29, the same day as Sanju. adding to the coincidence. Notably, the Nawazuddin Siddiqui-Neha Sharma starrer Jogira Sara Ra Ra, which premiered on May 26 last month, also faced the removal of the phrase ‘Ghapa Ghap’ from one of its dialogues by the CBFC.
CBFC Asked For The Removal Of More Dialogues
Furthermore, the CBFC requested the muting of the term ‘Dirty mind’ in the dialogue ‘Dirty mind hai aapka Katha ji’. Additionally, the film was instructed to remove any instances of the label ‘Phenyl’ throughout its duration. Lastly, the filmmakers were required to provide supporting documentary evidence for the statistics mentioned in the film’s conclusion. Following the implementation of these alterations, the censor certificate for Satyaprem Ki Katha was granted to the production team on June 13.
