Yodha Movie Review: Sidharth Malhotra, Raashii Khanna, Disha Patani Starrer Is Full Of Unexpected Twists And Thrills; An Entertaining Watch

Sidharth Malhotra returns to the silver screen with Yodha, an action-packed thriller that promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha, the film weaves a narrative filled with twists and adrenaline-pumping action scenes that are sure to intrigue and entertain.

Yodha: Plot

The film follows the story of Arun Katyal (Sidharth Malhotra), a special task soldier who finds himself suspended after a failed mission. The plot thickens when he is discovered on board a hijacked flight under mysterious circumstances, leading to a gripping tale of betrayal, redemption, and survival at 15,000 feet above the ground. The story unfolds with a slow burn, setting the stage for a series of events that escalate into a full-blown aerial emergency. The narrative is laced with twists that, while at times predictable, offering a fair share of exciting moments and twists to keep viewers engaged.

Yodha: Performances

Sidharth Malhotra steals the show as the determined soldier, expertly navigating the highs and lows of his character’s tumultuous journey. Sidharth Malhotra’s Arun Katyal is the film’s core, showcasing his versatility across action and romance. His larger-than-life portrayal is balanced by his natural charm, making even the most extraordinary feats seem plausible.

Raashii Khanna and Disha Patani deliver solid performances, with Khanna playing Malhotra’s love interest and Patani portraying an air hostess caught in the hostage drama. Raashii Khanna’s Priyamvada is a standout, embodying strength and independence. Her character’s journey is one of empowerment, and Khanna brings a tender yet resilient touch to Priya. Disha Patani surprises as Laila, a fierce femme fatale. Her performance is memorable, portraying a villain with no need for a backstory to justify her actions.

The supporting cast including Tanuj Virwani, Sunny Hinduja and Kritika Bharadwaj also impresses.

Yodha: Analysis

Yodha sets a new benchmark for Bollywood action films with its sleek and innovative action sequences. The cinematography by Jishnu Bhattacharjee is nothing short of stellar, adding a glossy finish to the high-octane scenes that unfold within the claustrophobic confines of an aircraft. The action directors, Craig Macrae and Sunil Rodrigues, have outdone themselves, crafting stunts that are as inventive as they are thrilling, ensuring that the audience’s gaze remains glued to the screen.

Despite the screenplay’s shortcomings, with certain segments coming across as underdeveloped and disjointed, the film manages to maintain its entertainment value. It’s a testament to the narrative’s strength that even when the writing falters, the film’s pace and energy never wane. The romance subplot, while not as intense as other cinematic love stories, adds a tender dimension to the otherwise robust action narrative. Sidharth Malhotra’s dual charm as the quintessential action hero and the heartthrob lover boy is undeniable, and his future in romantic roles seems both promising and highly anticipated.

The directorial duo, Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha, deserve commendation for their portrayal of female characters with depth and agency. In a genre often criticized for sidelining its female characters, Yodha breaks the mold by presenting women who are integral to the story and not merely ornamental. This progressive approach not only enriches the film’s character tapestry but also sets a precedent for future action films in Bollywood.

Yodha: Verdict

The film is a commendable effort that highlights Sidharth Malhotra’s versatility as an action hero. It’s a film that will resonate with fans of high-stakes drama and relentless action, even if it doesn’t entirely reinvent the wheel. It’s full of unexpected twists and thrills, an ideal entertaining weekend watch!
