Ajay Devgn‘s latest romantic thriller, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, directed by Neeraj Pandey, has had a rough start at the box office. The film, which also stars Tabu, managed to collect just Rs 1.85 cr nett on its opening day.
This figure marks one of the lowest debuts ever for a major Bollywood star and is the worst opening for Ajay Devgn in the last 15 years.
Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha Opening Is Even Lower Than Sarfira
The film’s performance is notably poorer than other recent flops like Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira, Mission Raniganj, and Selfiee.
It even fell short of the trade’s conservative predictions for a romantic film. The lacklustre start is a disappointment given that Ajay Devgn and Tabu had successful runs earlier this year with Crew and Shaitaan.
Makers Failed To Interest Viewers Despite Avoiding Competition With Kalki 2898 AD
Despite a shift in release date to avoid competition from Kalki 2898 AD, AMKDT failed to capture audience interest.
The film saw an overall occupancy of just 9.16% on its opening day, with the highest attendance during the night shows. In Delhi NCR, where the film had 667 shows, the occupancy was around 8.25%. In Mumbai, it fared slightly better with an 11 percent occupancy across 559 shows.
The film’s disappointing performance comes on the back of negative reviews and it will struggle to recover over the weekend. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is set to be a major flop for Hindi cinema.
