Baby John Proves To Be A DISASTER, Varun’s Big Bet To Become Massy Action Hero And Atlee’s Desire To Milk Jawan’s Success Failed Miserably

Baby John has turned out to be a major box office failure & struggling to recover its massive budget amid poor reviews and weak collections.

Varun Dhawan’s latest release Baby John has proved to be a destined box office failure. Released on Christmas 2024 with high expectations, the movie struggled from day one, earning poor reviews and receiving negative word-of-mouth. Despite being a solo holiday release, it failed to draw audiences and was a major disappointment.

Baby John Failing Miserably At The Box Office

Directed by Kalees and written by Atlee, Baby John featured an ensemble cast including Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jackie Shroff alongside Varun Dhawan. With a massive budget of Rs 180 crore and music by Thaman, the film aimed to deliver an action-packed experience but fell short. Its opening day collection was a mere Rs 11.25 crore nett.

The film’s troubles deepened on its second day, with collections dropping by 65%, bringing in just Rs 3.50–3.75 crore nett. This took the two-day total to Rs 15 crore nett, a disastrous figure for a high-budget project. Without a strong weekend boost or New Year holiday surge, recovering its investment seems impossible.

Day 1: Rs 11.25 crore

Day 2: Rs 3.75 crore

Total: 15 crore net

Adding to its challenges, competition from hits like Pushpa 2 and Mufasa has further affected Baby John. While Pushpa 2 continues to dominate the box office, setting records in the Hindi belt, Baby John has failed to find its footing.

Atlee Couldn’t Repeat The Success Of Jawan With Varun Dhawan Starrer

The film has also faced backlash over its storyline. Varun Dhawan described it as a reimagined version of the Tamil hit Theri, but viewers criticised it as an uninspired remake. Combined with poor word-of-mouth and weak reviews, these factors have made it hard for the film to gain momentum.

Trade experts believe even a strong weekend performance might not save the film. Anything less than Rs 60–70 crore nett by the weekend would solidify its failure, and sustaining momentum during weekdays looks unlikely.

For Varun Dhawan, who aimed to establish himself as a mass-action star, Baby John is a significant setback. Atlee, known for the blockbuster Jawan, also failed to replicate his earlier success with this project.
