Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently shared a cryptic message on his Instagram, hinting at a shift in his career. He implied that filmmaking no longer satisfies him. He plans to embrace roles as a villain.
Coinciding with this announcement, the trailer for Nithilan Swaminathan’s revenge saga Maharaja was released, featuring Kashyap in a grey role alongside Vijay Sethupathi. Soon after, a teaser for another project Bad Cop showcasing Kashyap as a villain was also unveiled.
What’s In Bad Cop Teaser?
In this 47-seconds teaser, Kashyap plays Kazbe, a menacing goon who wields considerable power. One scene shows Kazbe mocking a man by making him sing the children’s song “The ABC Song” in front of his cronies.
Spotting someone outside, Kazbe challenges the man to name a word starting with ‘K,’ hinting at his own name and asserting his dominance.
The tension escalates when Gulshan Devaiah’s character, Inspector Karan, arrives to confront Kazbe. The teaser hints at a potential twist, suggesting Devaiah might portray a dual role, adding depth to the narrative.
Gulshan Devaiah returns to the screen as a cop, following his performances in Dahaad and Duranga. His character, Karan, appears to struggle with a split personality, with his darker side named Arjun. This nods to the 1995 hit film Karan Arjun, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.
The teaser description on YouTube plays with this theme, stating, “‘K’ for ‘Kazbe’ (scoundrel). ‘K’ for ‘Kamina’ (rascal). ‘K’ for ‘Coming Soon’.” Anurag Kashyap also shared the teaser on Instagram, writing in Hindi, ”क से कज़बे. क से कमीना. क से कमिंग सून! Hotstar Specials: #BadCop Coming Soon!”

Anurag Kashyap Calls His Character A ‘Dreadful Villain’
Speaking to Variety, Anurag Kashyap revealed the challenges of playing such a dark character. “I have created a lot of characters that are gory, quirky, dark and many more things but believe it or not it was difficult for me to be one. Kazbe is someone who doesn’t think too much before doing anything, he just does it. He is a dreadful, eccentric, nefarious and a quintessential villain. I had to bite into the intricacies of this character and make it my own.”
Gulshan Devaiah Says It Was Fun To Do Action Scenes With Anurag Kashyap
Gulshan Devaiah discussed the physical challenges of his role, especially the action scenes. “The action was a bit tough, particularly the running, which challenged me because I’m not used to doing action and I’m not physically built for it. Overall, it was fun working with Fremantle India and Disney+ Hotstar. Moreover, it was enjoyable to perform with Anurag, who had only directed and produced my films earlier, but it was fun to do scenes and action with him. I never expected to be acting with him,” he remarked.
