Bobby Deol’s latest big screen turn has landed with a thud. Bandar, his first collaboration with Anurag Kashyap, arrived in cinemas on Friday, June 5, 2026, but the prison drama failed to convert its festival curiosity into opening day footfalls. For a film carrying Kashyap’s name and Deol’s current post-Animal heat, the first day number makes for a grim start.
Bandar Opens Low At The Box Office
Bandar collected Rs 50 lakh net in India on day 1, staying well below the Rs 1 crore mark. Its gross opening stood at Rs 60 lakh, making the start a box office disaster for a film that was banking on urban audience interest and strong word of mouth.
The film played across 1,365 shows on its opening day and recorded an overall occupancy of 12.58 percent. The morning occupancy began at 3.38 percent, moved to 6.31 percent in the afternoon, rose to 11.92 percent in the evening, and closed at 18.08 percent at night. Delhi-NCR led the show count with 253 screenings and 9 percent occupancy, while Ahmedabad had 106 shows but managed only 6 percent occupancy.
The opening puts Bandar ahead of Kashyap’s Nishaanchi, which had grossed Rs 25 lakh on day 1 despite a wider show count, and also above the first week total of Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat. However, it remained behind Dobaaraa, which had opened at Rs 72 lakh, and was far below the pre-pandemic starts of Manmarziyaan and Mukkabaaz.
