Mohanlal’s much-awaited directorial debut Barroz is struggling at the box office, raising doubts about its future. The 3D fantasy film, made with a reported budget of Rs 80 crore, hasn’t lived up to expectations despite heavy promotion and Mohanlal’s star power.
Barroz Has Earned Only 6.51 Cr In 3 Days At The Box Office
The film had a weak start on Friday. In its first three days, it earned just Rs 1.11 crore in India, bringing its total to Rs 6.51 crore.
Most of this came from the Malayalam version, which earned Rs 1.06 crore, with the Tamil and Telugu versions contributing only a small amount. Even the highly anticipated Hindi version, released on Friday, failed to attract many viewers.
Barroz was meant to appeal to families, especially children, over the holiday season. However, its long runtime and slow pace have turned off its target audience. Despite Mohanlal’s efforts to promote the film nationwide, it’s not delivering the box office results hoped for a big-budget movie.
The production of Barroz faced several challenges. The post-production was done in the UK, and the VFX was completed in Thailand. While the music by Mark Killian and Lydian Nadaswaram was praised, it wasn’t enough to draw crowds to cinemas. Cinematographer Santosh Sivan’s visuals were impressive but didn’t capture the audience’s attention.
Will This Mohanlal Starrer Become A BO Disaster?
While Barroz stars Mohanlal in the lead, it also features Guru Somasundaram and Maya Rao West in supporting roles, with a cameo by Pranav Mohanlal. Despite the star cast, the film has failed to impress many viewers, who feel the performances were lacking.
The film’s production took nearly four years, with many delays. This added to the budget and built up high expectations, which may have contributed to the film’s disappointing performance. The movie’s slow and inconsistent production schedule set the bar too high for the final product. Now, its future is uncertain amid poor performance and low footfalls.
When Will The Barroz Release On OTt?
Barroz has secured its OTT rights with Disney+ Hotstar and is expected to stream in multiple languages, including Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, by February 2025.
The official release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the OTT release could offer a chance to reach a wider audience, especially if the film continues to underperform at the box office.
