The film Samrat Prithviraj, starring Akshay Kumar, has now completed its run in theatres. After Bachchhan Paandey, the film turned out to be the actor’s second consecutive flop. Samrat Prithviraj has been hovering around the Rs 1.85 to 2-crore range for quite some time now. On second weekend, the film grossed a pitiful Rs 7.25 crore at the domestic box office, despite a hefty reported budget of Rs 200 crore. Almost definitely, Samrat Prithviraj will not reach the coveted Rs 100-crore threshold. It is likely to gross Rs 65 crore in total, according to projections.

On June 3, Adivi Sesh’s Major and Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan, Fahadh Faasil, and Vijay Sethupathi, released in theatres, clashing with Samrat Prithviraj. According to rumours, the film’s shows are being cancelled and flushed out in several circuits due to low attendance, in order to create room for more commercially viable shows of other films.
Akshay Kumar-starrer Samrat Prithviraj is based on the life of the fearless King Prithviraj Chauhan. Manushi Chhillar plays King Prithviraj Chauhan’s beloved, Sanyogita. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood. Samrat Prithviraj released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on June 3.
