Sooryavanshi has gotten off to a great start. The film did better than expected on the top end, grossing 26.29 crores on its first day.
This is extremely surprising given that Bollywood has been on the decline for the past 18 months, with only two films — Roohi (26 crores) and Bell Bottom (32 crores) – doing any type of business. While the former’s life span has been surpassed in a single day, the latter’s is almost there.
The day 2 of this Akshay Kumar starrer did not fail to impress as well. The film collected a whopping amount of 30.50 cr on its second day.
To put it another way, a start like this for Sooryavanshi is comparable to pre-pandemic biggies, and that’s without accounting for a slew of other elements that are still present and proving to be a stumbling block. Reduced apt footfalls have been attributed to 50 percent occupancy in major regions such as Maharashtra and Haryana, night curfews in some areas, and audience concern owing to COVID.
Sooryavanshi could have gone anywhere if it hadn’t been for that. Would it have been 40, 45 or more crores on day 1 and 2? Nobody knows for sure, but that would have been a fantastic start. What counts is that the Rohit Shetty-directed Akshay Kumar film has gotten off to a strong start, and now it’s all about maintaining that position.
