According to trade website Box Office India, things are now looking better for the Indian theatre business, with Punjabi film Puaada, which opened today, reporting strong advance bookings amd box office collections.
Before the pandemic, the biggest Punjabi films were released in 175+ theatres, but Puaada had to settle with about 100 theatres, as numerous theatres have not reopened due to rent or other concerns. Ammy Virk and Sonam Bajwa star in the romantic comedy directed by Rupinder Chahal.

In the past, Ammy Virk’s hits have brought in Rs1 crore at the box office in east Punjab. However, not only are 40-50 percent of theatres currently closed, but cinemas are also operating at 50 percent capacity.
Puaada has grossed 1.25 crore and is screening to packed houses all over the world, which is a fantastic start for the film.
