DC Scores A Strong First Week As Lokesh Kanagaraj And Wamiqa Gabbi’s Film Wraps Week 1 At Rs 47.25 Crore

For a filmmaker best known for commanding the action from behind the camera, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s first week as a leading man has landed with real force. DC, which pairs him with Wamiqa Gabbi, has turned its opening stretch into a clear box office statement, closing Week 1 at an estimated Rs 47.25 crore gross in India. That is a striking result for a film that began with Rs 5.25 crore on Friday and then built steadily through strong weekend traction and a firm weekday hold.

The film added an estimated Rs 4.75 crore gross on Thursday, taking its seven day total to Rs 47.25 crore. Positive word of mouth has powered DC through the week, helping the Arun Matheswaran directorial maintain momentum well beyond its opening day. The pattern is especially significant because the film grew on audience reception rather than frontloading its run on day one.

Dc Completes A Robust Opening Week

The day wise trend reflects that consistency. After opening with Rs 5.25 crore on Friday, DC collected Rs 7.50 crore on Saturday and climbed to Rs 10.75 crore on Sunday. It then posted Rs 6.50 crore on both Monday and Tuesday, followed by Rs 6 crore on Wednesday and Rs 4.75 crore on Thursday. The territorial split has been equally strong, with Tamil Nadu contributing Rs 14.50 crore gross and the Telugu states adding Rs 13 crore. Kerala delivered Rs 11.50 crore, Karnataka brought in Rs 5.50 crore, and the rest of India added Rs 2.75 crore.

Day 1: 5.25 cr

Day 2: 7.50 cr

Day 3: 10.75 cr

Day 4: 6.50 cr

Day 5: 6.50 cr

Day 6: 6.00 cr

Day 7: 4.75 cr

Total: 47.25 crore

That spread has already placed the film in the clean hit zone in its first week, while setting up an important second weekend. New theatrical competition may test its pace from here, but DC has already done the hardest part by converting curiosity around Lokesh’s screen debut into sustained footfalls.

Lokesh Kanagaraj’S Screen Debut Gives Dc Its Distinct Edge

Directed by Arun Matheswaran and backed by Sun Pictures, DC is positioned as a romantic action drama starring Lokesh Kanagaraj as Devadas and Wamiqa Gabbi as Chandra, with Sanjana Krishnamoorthy in a key role. The film’s central hook lies in watching one of Tamil cinema’s most influential directors step in front of the camera for a full fledged lead performance.

That novelty was part of the conversation well before release, and Wamiqa Gabbi herself signalled the intensity around the project when she said, “Oh, my God!” while speaking about DC during a public interaction earlier this year. With the film now translating that anticipation into box office numbers, the spotlight naturally shifts to what this success means for the cast, especially Gabbi, who has been building a wide ranging filmography across industries.

Wamiqa Gabbi’S Recent And Upcoming Work

For Wamiqa Gabbi, DC arrives in the middle of a particularly dynamic run. Her recent releases include Baby John in 2024 and Bhool Chuk Maaf in 2025, followed by Bhooth Bangla in 2026. Across the last few years, she has also strengthened her presence on streaming with titles such as Khufiya and Jubilee, showing an ease with both mainstream and performance driven material.

As of August 14, 2026, her confirmed upcoming slate includes Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. That balance between theatrical projects and OTT visibility has given Gabbi strong career momentum, and DC now adds a commercial hit to that evolving phase.
