Aamir Khan’s backing, Sai Pallavi’s Hindi film debut, and a theatrical launch built around Junaid Khan should have given Ek Din a clear pre-release edge. Instead, the film is walking into release week with startlingly little buzz, turning what should have been a carefully primed romantic drama into a title still struggling to register with the wider audience.
That mismatch is now the story. In a market where even modest films fight hard to dominate social chatter before release, Ek Din has not translated its pedigree into urgency. The promotional campaign has kept the film visible, but visibility alone has not built momentum, and the gap is beginning to show at the box office level.
Why Ek Din’S Opening Is Looking Fragile
As of April 30, 2026, Ek Din is heading for a weak opening when it releases in cinemas on May 1, 2026. The problem is not just competition or the usual uncertainty around romance-led dramas. The larger issue is a campaign that has not created enough curiosity before release. Advance booking works best when a film already has audience pull, and Ek Din has entered the final stretch without that advantage.
As of now film will struggle to cross 3 crore nett day one which is a pathetic number. Last release of Junaid Khan Loveyapa was also a box office disaster. This seems like another washout at box office and that spells trouble for Junaid’s career.

On top of this, nepo tag, poor marketing, dated songs and remake tag further denying the film’s prospects.
That puts immediate pressure on opening day performance. For a film mounted by Aamir Khan Productions and carrying a fresh pairing that should have generated conversation, the current awareness level is unexpectedly thin. Unless strong audience response kicks in quickly after release, the film will have to fight uphill from its first day itself.
The Film’S Premise Has Appeal, But The Noise Is Missing
What makes the muted response more striking is that Ek Din is not a difficult film to position. Directed by Sunil Pandey and produced by Mansoor Khan, Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under Aamir Khan Productions, the romantic drama stars Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, with music by Ram Sampath. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on May 1, 2026 through PVR Inox Pictures.
Its premise is emotionally direct. The story follows a man in love with his colleague who gets a chance to spend just one day with her during a company trip to Japan. Adapted from the 2016 Thai film One Day, the project also carries added attention because it marks Sai Pallavi’s first Hindi film release.
Why This Friday Matters For Junaid Khan
That subdued pre-release outlook also sharpens the stakes for Junaid Khan, who is still defining his place as a theatrical lead. He began his acting career with Maharaj in 2024, which premiered on Netflix and introduced him in a period drama setting. He then moved to the big screen with Loveyapa in 2025, a romantic comedy co-starring Khushi Kapoor and directed by Advait Chandan, but the film did not emerge as a breakout theatrical success.
That is why Ek Din matters beyond its opening-day numbers. With Sai Pallavi as his co-star and Aamir Khan Productions behind him, this release arrives as an early test of whether Junaid can turn strong industry backing into real audience traction in theatres.
