Shah Rukh Khan‘s Pathaan is the biggest Bollywood film of this year so far. The film, which marked SRK’s comeback after around five years, went on to gross over 1,000 crores at the global box office, without a China release. Another big film of this year has to be Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani which was released last Friday. So far, the film has done great business.
Apart from India, Bollywood films also have a strong presence in North America. In 2023, Pathaan performed exceptionally well in that continent as it grossed $1.48M on its opening day. This is followed by Mani Ratnam’s epic period drama Ponniyin Selvan 2 with $1M. Trailing this list with the third spot is the recently released Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani with $442K opening. The number is expected to grow as the film is still playing in the theatres.

Rocky Aur Rani’s Collection In India
Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani opened to an impressive 25%-30% occupancy on 3,482 screens across the country. It performed well on national chains as compared to non-national chains; 60-62% of the total gross came from national chains. The film minted 11.50 cr net on its first day and 1.24 million USD (10 cr) on day one in overseas market. The film is expected to cross 90-95 crore gross worldwide weekend.

Pathaan’s Records
Pathaan was made on a budget of a whopping 225 cr. Globally, it became the first Bollywood film to gross 100 cr on its first day. It earned 106 cr in India and 36.69 cr in the overseas market. The film also quickly grossed 200 and 300 cr marks in just four and a weeks time. Pathaan is the highest-grosser of SRK’s career, the second-highest-grossing Bollywood film, the fifth-highest-grossing Indian film, and the fourth-highest-grossing film in the domestic market. Now all the expectations are on Shah Rukh’s upcoming action thriller Jawan where he is once again in an action avatar.
