Ginny Weds Sunny 2 Box Office Disaster: Medha Shankar, Avinash Tiwary Film Ends Run At ₹1.54 Crore Net

Sometimes a film fades. Ginny Weds Sunny 2 crashed. The Medha Shankar and Avinash Tiwary starrer arrived in theatres on April 24, 2026, with sequel recall and a youthful pairing that should have given it a fighting chance, but its theatrical journey ended at just ₹1.54 crore net in India. For a Hindi release mounted on a reported ₹25 crore budget, that finish places it firmly in disaster territory.

The slide began immediately. The film opened to only ₹25 lakh on day one and never found the kind of surge that can keep a theatrical title alive through its first weekend. By the time its initial week closed, the writing was already on the wall. Its final India gross stopped at ₹1.81 crore, turning what might have been a modest underperformer into one of the year’s starkest theatrical washouts.

A Sequel Setup That Never Converted

What makes the outcome more striking is that Ginny Weds Sunny 2 did not arrive without a commercial frame. Directed by Prasshant Jha and produced by Soundrya Production and Zee Studios, the Hindi romantic comedy was positioned as a spiritual sequel to Ginny Weds Sunny (2020), leaning on a familiar title while introducing a fresh lead pair in Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankar.

The film followed a lonely wrestler whose carefully ordered life is unsettled by the arrival of an energetic young woman. On paper, that mix of romance, opposites-attract tension and sequel branding suggested an easy, accessible crowd-pleaser. Instead, the film failed to convert its setup into a compelling theatrical event, and the supporting cast, including Lillete Dubey, Sudhir Pandey, Govind Namdev, Gopi Bhalla and Rohit Chaudhary, could not change the equation.

The Latest Box Office Update

With a final ₹1.54 crore net and ₹1.81 crore gross in India, the film closed its run after recovering only a small fraction of its cost. In pure box office terms, Ginny Weds Sunny 2 was not merely a weak performer but a clean rejection at the ticket window.

That distinction matters. Plenty of films open soft and survive on weekend word of mouth, music traction or family audiences. This one never developed a second phase. The gap between its scale and its final total is what makes the result so severe.

Medha Shankar’s Recent And Upcoming Work

The flop, however, does not erase the upward movement both leads had built before this release. For Medha Shankar, 12th Fail (2023) remains the defining marker of her recent phase. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s sleeper hit gave her strong visibility and credibility, following earlier appearances in Shaadisthan (2021), Dil Bekaraar (2021) and Max, Min and Meowzaki (2022). Ginny Weds Sunny 2 lands more as a commercial setback than a career reset.

The same applies to Avinash Tiwary, whose recent run has been broader and steadier than this result suggests. He was seen in the successful theatrical release Madgaon Express (2024), followed by Sikandar Ka Muqaddar (2024) on Netflix and The Mehta Boys (2025). He also has the confirmed 2026 release O’Romeo ahead. If Ginny Weds Sunny 2 says anything about the current market, it is that even actors with growing traction need a film’s packaging and positioning to click from the first show.
