Ayushmann Khurrana Calls Prajapati Pandey A Green Flag As Pati Patni Aur Woh Do Trailer Sparks Debate

The moment Pati Patni Aur Woh Do sparked debate over whether its trailer was flirting with infidelity, Ayushmann Khurrana moved quickly to set the record straight. At the film’s Mumbai trailer launch, the actor tackled the chatter head-on, insisting that the story is not endorsing betrayal, but building its laughs around confusion, perception and a classic comedy-of-errors setup.

Ayushmann was unambiguous when addressing the concern. “We are not promoting any infidelity as it’s a family film. Sabko yeh film dekh ke bahut mazaa aayega. It’s just a comedy of errors. It’s not like Prajapati is having an extramarital affair,” he said. He also defended his character’s intent, adding, “My character of Prajapati Pandey is a green flag. Uska moral compass bilkul correct hai.”

His remarks immediately reframed the conversation around the film, which stars Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi and Rakul Preet Singh alongside him. Also present at the event were Bhushan Kumar, Juno Chopra and Shiv Chanana, as the team leaned into the film’s madcap tone rather than any moral provocation the trailer may have suggested.

The Team Explains The Trailer’s Real Joke

Ayushmann made it clear that Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is designed as full-throttle comedy. “I will not call it a romcom. I’ll just call it a pure comedy. More than romance, there’s an abundance of comedy happening with these four characters,” he said, emphasizing that the humour comes from escalating situations rather than an affair-driven plot.

Rakul Preet Singh backed that reading of the film’s central confusion. “This character is a bechara. Woh kuch galat nahin kar raha hai. As Ayushmann rightly said, our film is not promoting infidelity or an extramarital affair. It’s a comedy of errors and it happens with many people. Hum karte kuch aur hai, log samajhte kuch aur hai, ho kuch aur jaata hai aur nazariya kuch aur ho jaata hai,” she said.

Ayushmann also shared a personal marker for the kind of cinema he wants to make now. “I want to do films that my kids can watch. In fact, I got my kids to watch the edit of this film. They really loved it. My benchmark sets there. If kids are loving it, then I am sure it’s a wholesome family film.”

What Pati Patni Aur Woh Do Brings To The Table

Directed and written by Mudassar Aziz, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is backed by T-Series and B. R. Studios. The Hindi comedy features Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi and Rakul Preet Singh, and is scheduled to release in cinemas on May 15, 2026. Set in Prayagraj, the film follows a seemingly settled marriage that tumbles into comic chaos after one turn of events triggers suspicion, misread motives and increasingly tangled misunderstandings.

Why This Film Matters In Ayushmann’s Current Run

For Ayushmann, the project lands at an interesting point in his career. His previous theatrical releases, Thamma in 2025 and Dream Girl 2 in 2023, reaffirmed his command over mainstream comedy, while Doctor G and An Action Hero, both released in 2022, showed his appetite for high-concept stories with a commercial edge. Pati Patni Aur Woh Do appears to bring those strengths together again, placing him in a familiar comic zone while giving him a fresh ensemble setup and a franchise title with recall. He is also awaiting release of Dharma Productions’ spy comedy Udta Teer opposite Sara Ali Khan and shooting for Sooraj Barjatya’s film opposite Sharvari Wagh.

With the trailer now under scrutiny and the lead actor answering it directly, the film’s biggest early talking point is no longer scandal, but whether this comedy of misunderstandings can turn debate into audience curiosity.
