The first weekend has delivered a harsh verdict for Ginny Wedss Sunny 2. Despite arriving with recognisable faces, a familiar rom-com setup and the benefit of fresh release visibility, the film failed to generate the kind of theatrical pull Hindi titles depend on in their opening frame. Three days in, the numbers are already flashing trouble.
Instead of gathering pace over the weekend, the film remained stuck in low gear and closed Sunday with just Rs 1.20 crore India net. That is an alarmingly soft start for a new theatrical release and it leaves Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 under immediate pressure as the weekday test begins.
A Soft Sunday Deepens Opening Weekend Trouble
As per Sacnilk figures, Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 earned Rs 0.38 crore net on day three from 999 shows. That pushed its India gross to Rs 1.43 crore, while the India net total reached Rs 1.20 crore at the end of its first weekend.
The film had collected Rs 0.30 crore on opening day and Rs 0.57 crore on day two, so Sunday did not provide the lift a new release would usually count on. The weekend trend has left the film with very little margin for recovery going into the weekdays.

Early reactions to the film have been mixed, with some appreciation directed at the lead cast even as the writing drew criticism. One review praised Avinash Tiwary for putting in “right effort” despite a weakly written part, while also noting that Medha Shankr suited her role well after winning audience goodwill with 12th Fail.
That appreciation has not translated into box office traction. The performances may have found some support, but the film itself has not converted that into the steady footfalls needed to stabilise its run.

The underwhelming opening stands out because both actors came into the film with strong visibility. Avinash Tiwary had stayed active with titles such as Madgaon Express in 2024, Sikandar Ka Muqaddar in 2024 and The Mehta Boys in 2025. Medha Shankr, meanwhile, continued to benefit from the strong audience recall of 12th Fail in 2023, following earlier films like Shaadisthan in 2021 and Max, Min and Meowzaki in 2022.
That is what makes the opening weekend of Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 especially notable. Instead of turning current familiarity into a stronger theatrical result, the film has opened on numbers that intensify pressure on its weekday hold. For both Avinash and Medha, this release was a chance to convert rising recognition into a more substantial box office outcome. After three days, that breakthrough is not materialising at the box office.
