One of last year’s most unexpectedly delightful Hindi comedies is now heading back on track for another ride. Madgaon Express, the scrappy, wildly enjoyable caper that built its audience through word of mouth, is getting a sequel, and Divyenndu has delivered the clearest update yet on where things stand.
In a recent conversation with Variety India, the actor confirmed that Madgaon Express 2 is actively moving forward. “Yes, it’s on. It’s definitely on. Kunal is working on the script. We are all very, very excited,” he said, firmly signalling that Kunal Kemmu has already begun shaping the follow up to his 2024 directorial debut.
The Sequel Update Fans Were Waiting For
Divyenndu also spoke about the way the first film continued to grow in affection after its release. “The kind of response we got for Madgaon was so… I mean, it’s got a cultish sort of a following. I’m not gonna use the word ‘cult’, because it’s too new. It still has to grow and age well. But yeah, people are really excited about that film,” he said.
That statement adds weight to the breadcrumb Kemmu had dropped in March 2025, when he marked the film’s first anniversary by saying he had “finished writing the next.” With Divyenndu now confirming that the script is being worked on, the sequel has clearly moved into active development.
The first film clicked because it never tried to look polished or overdesigned. Its comedy came from three deeply flawed friends blundering into a Goa trip that spiralled into crime, confusion and absurdity, with Divyenndu, Pratik Gandhi and Avinash Tiwary playing off each other with terrific rhythm. That messy, lived in energy helped the film earn strong recall long after its theatrical run.
Released on March 22, 2024, Madgaon Express marked Kemmu’s directorial debut and was backed by Excel Entertainment. The ensemble cast included Nora Fatehi, Upendra Limaye and Chhaya Kadam alongside the central trio. The film grossed about ₹57 crore worldwide, a solid result for a mid scale comedy, and also strengthened Kemmu’s standing as a filmmaker, eventually earning him the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director.
How The Ending Set Up A Wilder Follow Up
The idea of a sequel was baked into the film’s closing stretch. By the end, Divyenndu’s Dodo lands a lottery win and casually pitches the next adventure, a trip to Las Vegas. What first played like a cheeky final punchline now stands as the clearest setup for the next chapter.
That confirmation also arrives at a timely moment for Divyenndu. With multiple releases across film and streaming already shaping his current phase, the sequel news adds another crowd pleasing franchise title to an already busy slate.
A Busy Slate Keeps Divyenndu In The Spotlight
In 2024, Divyenndu appeared in Madgaon Express and the film Agni. He was also seen in The Railway Men in 2023, a series that expanded his screen image beyond the hard lined roles that made him widely popular. In 2025, he featured in Saali Mohabbat, which released on ZEE5.
His next major releases are already lined up. Divyenndu stars in Netflix’s Glory, which premieres on May 1, 2026, and he is also part of Mirzapur: The Movie, scheduled for a theatrical release on September 4, 2026. With streaming, franchise titles and now a confirmed sequel in the mix, his line up reflects an actor balancing familiar fan favourites with new terrain.
