I Want To Talk Box Office Collection Day 2: Abhishek Bachchan Starrer Shoojit Sircar Film Set To Cross Poor 1.25 Crore Despite Glowing Reviews

Shoojit Sircar’s first big screen film since 2018 has failed to bring footfall to theaters despite it being celebrated as Abhishek Bachchan’s ‘career best’ performance.

I Want To Talk opened to a disappointing Rs 25 lakh net on its release day with around 800 shows across India. Film failed to beat 30 year old re released film Karan Arjun

Film grew marginally on day two and collected 45 lacs net. Film has 2 day total of 70 lacs net and it will cross 1.25 crore net over the weekend which is disastrous.

Between 2018 and 2024, Shoojit Sircar directed two other films, Gulabo Sitabo and Sardar Udham, but both films released directly on OTT because of the pandemic. His 2018 release, October, was his last big screen release, starring Varun Dhawan. The film had opened to good reviews with an opening day collection of Rs 4.25 crore and earned Rs 39.06 crore net. 

Meanwhile, Abhishek Bachchan was last seen in Ghoomer, opposite Saiyami Kher. The movie received positive reviews, but failed to earn at the box office. The film earned Rs 85 lakh on opening day, and earned Rs 7.15 crore globally. Before this, Abhishek’s lowest opener was 2004’s Naach, which made Rs 42 lakh on opening day.

Before Ghoomer, Abhishek was seen in DasviBob Biswas, and The Big Bull, but all these films were OTT releases. Bachchan, however, had received praises for his performances despite the films’ receiving mixed response for its storytelling. I Want To Talk becomes the lowest opener of both actor Abhishek Bachchan and filmmaker Shoojit Sircar compared to their previous films. Abhishek Bachchan’s last venture, Ghoomer had opened to Rs 85 lakh, whereas, Shoojit Sircar’s October opened to Rs 4.25 crore.

Till date, Dhoom 3 remains the highest-earning film of Abhishek Bachchan’s career with a worldwide collection of Rs 271.07 crore. This is followed by Happy New Year, which made Rs 199.95 crore and Housefull 3, which made Rs 110.2 crore. All these films were multi-starrers.
