Chandrakant Patil, a former minister and the newly elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Kothrud constituency in Pune, has strongly criticized the upcoming music concert featuring popular artist Diljit Dosanjh, scheduled to take place at Kakade Farm in Pune.
Patil has expressed serious objections to the event, calling for its immediate cancellation and calling it a “societal menace.” His comments have sparked considerable controversy, with the politician warning of a large-scale protest if the concert proceeds as planned.
In a statement addressing the media, Patil, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), outlined several concerns regarding the event. Foremost among these issues was the anticipated sale of alcohol at the concert, a practice that Patil believes could negatively impact the local community. However, his objections are not limited solely to alcohol consumption. He also raised alarms over the potential challenges the concert could pose, including traffic congestion and the disruption of daily life for Kothrud residents. According to Patil, such large-scale events tend to create significant disturbances, including the risk of overcrowding and the disturbance of the peaceful environment that the area is known for.
Patil’s opposition is not just political but also appears to stem from his personal sense of responsibility as a local representative. He has urged local authorities to intervene and prevent the concert from taking place, sending letters to Pune’s Police Commissioner, the District Collector, and the Excise Department, asking them to take decisive action to halt the event. His message to the officials is clear: if the event goes ahead, the BJP will organize a massive protest march, with Patil himself leading the demonstration.
“Events like these create disruptions and pose a serious threat to societal well-being. As a representative of the people and a responsible citizen of Kothrud, I cannot allow such events to take place unchecked,” Patil said. He further stated that the concert’s potential negative impact on public peace, traffic flow, and noise levels far outweighed any potential entertainment benefits. In Patil’s view, such concerts, especially those of a large scale, often attract unruly behavior and generate disturbances that are detrimental to the social fabric of the local community.
Patil’s stance has sparked a debate across Pune. Supporters of the MLA have applauded his efforts to safeguard the public interest, particularly in terms of maintaining law and order and minimizing disruptions to daily life. They argue that the large-scale gatherings associated with such events often create undue stress for local residents, especially when it comes to issues like noise pollution, traffic jams, and the strain on local infrastructure.
