Khel Khel Mein: Akshay Kumar’s Multi-Starrer Comedy Ends Its Theatrical Run With Just Rs 57 Cr Worldwide, Another DISASTER!

Khel Khel Mein has wrapped up its run at the box office with a disappointing collection of Rs 57 cr worldwide. It is Akshay Kumar's another recent disaster after BMCM and Sarfira.

Akshay Kumar’s recent release Khel Khel Mein, directed by Mudassar Aziz, has officially ended its theatrical run, but the numbers aren’t as exciting as expected.

Despite a star-studded cast, which included Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, and Pragya Jaiswal, the film struggled at the box office, grossing a modest Rs 57 crore worldwide. Most of the collection came from the Indian market.

Khel Khel Mein Is Another DISASTER From Akshay Kumar

Khel Khel Mein marks another underwhelming performance for Akshay Kumar, who has been facing a rough patch at the box office. Released on the high-profile Independence Day weekend, the film faced stiff competition from two major releases—Stree 2 and Vedaa.

Although it was the lowest opener of the three, the film did manage to surpass the lifetime earnings of John Abraham’s Sarfira, thanks to a better reception in urban centres.

By the end of its sixth weekend, Khel Khel Mein had earned Rs 41.60 crore net in India. The domestic total is expected to reach Rs 43 crore net, or Rs 52 crore gross. Despite a brief resurgence, the numbers fell short of what is typically expected from a megastar like Akshay Kumar, who has been a box office favourite for decades.

Week India Net Collections
Week 1 Rs 21 cr
Week 2 Rs 8.75 cr
Week 3 Rs 5.50 cr
Week 4 Rs 3.85 cr
Week 5 Rs 2.00 cr
6th Weekend Rs 0.50 cr
Total Rs 41.60 cr net

The film failed to strike a chord in international markets as well. With a collection of just $1.7 million (Rs 14.25 crore) overseas, Khel Khel Mein couldn’t find the global audience it needed.

This leaves the movie’s total worldwide earnings at a disappointing Rs 57 crore gross—a far cry from what one would expect from a high-budget Bollywood comedy.

Reasons For The Failure Of This Multi-Starrer Comedy

One of the major reasons behind the film’s failure seems to be the increasing fatigue over remakes. Audiences are growing tired of recycled stories, and Khel Khel Mein carried that unfortunate “remake tag,” which likely deterred a large section of viewers.

Additionally, the marketing for the film was limited, especially considering the competitive clash with Stree 2, which had a strong pre-release buzz. Poor planning regarding the film’s release strategy only worsened its fate at the box office.

About Khel Khel Mein

Khel Khel Mein centres around a group of seven friends who meet for a wedding. The night before the big day, they decide to play a quirky game—placing their phones on the table, making them accessible to everyone for the entire evening. What starts as a light-hearted game quickly spirals into chaos as secrets are revealed, leading to unexpected consequences that shake their lives.

The film featured a strong ensemble cast with Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan, Ammy Virk, Pragya Jaiswal, and Aditya Seal in prominent roles.

While Khel Khel Mein had the potential to be a big hit with such a stellar cast, the box office numbers tell a different story. Poor timing, stiff competition, and an audience craving fresh content seem to have contributed to its downfall.
