Obsession Box Office: Hollywood Horror Blockbuster Scares Up Rs 9.25 Crore Opening Weekend In India

Hollywood horror has sprung another surprise in India, and this one did not need a legacy franchise tag to get audiences into theatres. Obsession, starring Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, opened to a strong Rs 9 crore gross, or around Rs 7.50 crore nett, across its first weekend in the country.

The performance is notable because the film arrived with genre appeal rather than brand familiarity. Indian audiences have often embraced big-ticket Hollywood horror, especially titles connected to recognisable universes, but Obsession has managed to create traction through its eerie premise, escalating word of mouth, and a weekend trend that kept improving day after day.

Obsession Shows Excellent Growth From Friday To Sunday

Obsession began its India run with Rs 1.75 crore on Friday including paid previews and then saw a sharp Saturday jump. The film continued its upward movement on Sunday, collecting around Rs 3.75 crore despite the IPL final competing for audience attention in the evening.

That Friday-to-Sunday climb is the real highlight of the film’s opening frame. For a horror thriller driven by curiosity and audience pull, such growth suggests that the film found a conversation beyond its initial core crowd. Its Monday advances were also tracking ahead of its opening day level, giving exhibitors reason to expect a steady weekday run.

The film has also been performing strongly in North America over the last two weeks, adding to its global box office momentum. With Hollywood titles enjoying a healthy run in Indian cinemas in 2026, Obsession now joins the list of titles that have punched above expectations in the market.

Obsession Box Office Collection:

Paid Preview: 0.50

Day 1: 1.25 cr

Day 2: 3.00 cr

Day 3: 3.75 cr

Total: 7.50 crore nett

A Love Wish Turns Sinister In Obsession

Obsession is a supernatural horror film written, directed, and edited by Curry Barker in his theatrical feature debut. The film stars Michael Johnston as Bear and Inde Navarrette as Nikki, with Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter in supporting roles. It has been backed by Capstone Pictures, Tea Shop Productions, and Blumhouse Productions.

The story follows Bear, a shy music store employee whose infatuation with Nikki takes a dangerous turn after he buys a supernatural toy. When the object grants his wish for Nikki to fall in love with him, fantasy quickly curdles into fear, setting off a chain of disturbing consequences.

That hook gives Obsession a distinct space within the horror landscape, blending romantic fixation with supernatural dread. After its festival debut in 2025 and theatrical release in 2026, the film’s India box office start has given it fresh visibility among horror audiences. Its weekday tracking now positions Obsession to stretch beyond a neat opening weekend win and become one of the more memorable Hollywood horror stories of the season.
