Obsession Box Office: Horror Film Defies Gravity In India As Monday Beats Opening Day

A tiny horror film has become the week’s loudest box office surprise in India. Obsession, which had already sparked strong chatter in North America, has now pulled off the kind of weekday hold exhibitors dream of, with Monday collections rising above its opening day number. For a genre title without the usual franchise muscle, the trend is turning into a major win for Hollywood releases in the Indian market.

The film collected approximately Rs 2.25 crore on Monday in India, a figure that was around 40 to 45 percent higher than its first day. That is the real story here. Even a flat Monday is usually celebrated as a sign of strong word of mouth, but Obsession has gone several steps further by growing after the weekend.

Obsession Delivers A Rare Monday Jump In India

With Monday’s number, Obsession has taken its four day India gross to around Rs 12 crore. The film is now tracking toward a first week total of more than Rs 18 crore in India, with the weekday momentum firmly in its favour.

Tuesday is benefiting from discounted ticket pricing, and advances have moved ahead of Monday’s pace. A robust second weekend is now firmly in play, while the film’s lifetime projection has moved sharply upward after this hold. A Rs 30 crore India finish had looked like a strong target earlier, but the current trajectory now puts the film on course to challenge that mark by the end of its second weekend itself.

Obsession Box Office Collection:

Day 1: 1.25 cr

Day 2: 3.00 cr

Day 3: 3.75 cr

Day 4: 2.25 cr

Total: 10 crore nett (12 crore gross)

What makes the run more impressive is the scale. Obsession is not a superhero tentpole or legacy sequel. Its India performance has been powered by genre appeal, curiosity, and strong audience movement after release. In North America too, the film opened to USD 17 million in its first weekend and has been pacing toward a huge final tally, giving it a global horror breakout narrative.

Inside Obsession’S Supernatural Love Wish Gone Wrong

Obsession is an American supernatural horror film written, directed, and edited by Curry Barker in his theatrical feature debut. The film stars Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter, with Capstone Pictures, Tea Shop Productions, and Blumhouse Productions among the production banners associated with it.

The story follows Bear, a shy music store employee who buys a supernatural toy that grants his wish for his friend Nikki to fall in love with him. The wish soon spirals into terrifying consequences, giving the film its mix of emotional unease and genre shocks.

For Hollywood in India, Obsession adds another unexpected success to 2026. With major titles like Avengers: Doomsday, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day still lined up for later this year, the market has already found a surprise horror champion before the biggest releases arrive.
