Curry Barker’s breakout genre hit has not only sustained its momentum, it has powered into blockbuster territory, emerging as one of the most formidable Hollywood theatrical performers in the country this year.
The film added Rs 6.75 crore on its third Sunday, wrapping its third weekend at Rs 17.75 crore gross. Even more striking is the trend behind that number. The weekend drop from the previous frame stood at just 15 per cent, an exceptional hold for a horror title. Over 17 days, Obsession pushed its India total to Rs 76.75 crore nett, putting the film on course for a towering lifetime finish.
Obsession Tightens Its Grip At The India Box Office
The latest run confirms that Obsession is no longer just a surprise success. It is now a blockbuster. The film remained a top audience pick through the weekend despite multiple new releases, a sign of unusually strong word-of-mouth and repeat patronage. If the current pace continues, the horror thriller is expected to close its third week around the Rs 85 crore mark.
That would leave it needing roughly Rs 15 crore more to enter the Rs 100 crore club, a milestone it now appears poised to hit in its fourth week itself. The film is also racing toward another major benchmark in India, with a real shot at ending its run as the year’s top-grossing Hollywood release.
Its worldwide story has been equally extraordinary. Obsession premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2025, and was theatrically released in the United States on May 15, 2026. By June 2026, the film had grossed $248.9 million worldwide against a reported $750,000 budget, making it Focus Features’ highest-grossing film to date.
