Anil Sharma Shares Big Gadar 3 Update, Says Sunny Deol Starrer Will Be Bigger Than Before

Twenty five years after Gadar: Ek Prem Katha stormed into theatres and became one of Hindi cinema’s defining blockbusters, director Anil Sharma has now offered the clearest sign yet that Gadar 3 is firmly on the horizon. The filmmaker has confirmed that the franchise will move forward, and he is promising a third chapter mounted on an even larger scale.

The Gadar films have long occupied a unique place in the commercial Hindi film space, driven by Sunny Deol’s ferocious Tara Singh and a blend of romance, patriotism, and family drama. After Gadar 2 revived the franchise in 2023 with Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma returning to key roles, attention quickly turned to what the team would do next. Sharma has now answered that question while reflecting on the original film’s 25th anniversary this year.

Anil Sharma Promises A Bigger Third Chapter

Speaking about the next installment, Anil Sharma said, “Gadar 3 will definitely be made and it will be bigger than before.” He also underlined that the film cannot be mounted casually, adding, “It is a huge responsibility because people have a lot of expectations from this franchise.”

That statement gives the franchise its strongest forward push so far. It also aligns with the scale and emotional sweep that defined the earlier films. The 2001 original, directed by Sharma and starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, unfolded against the Partition of India and followed Tara Singh’s love story with Sakina. The 2023 sequel returned to the family’s story during the 1971 Indo Pak war, bringing back the core cast that audiences had strongly connected with over the years.

Backed by Zee Telefilms, the Gadar franchise has built its identity around period action drama rooted in personal emotion and national conflict. With Sharma now openly committing to Gadar 3, the next phase of the franchise arrives at a moment when both the brand and its lead star have regained strong theatrical currency.

Why The Update Matters For Sunny Deol Now

Sharma’s announcement also lands at a timely moment in Sunny Deol’s career. The actor has been enjoying a clear late phase resurgence, and that renewed momentum makes the Gadar 3 development especially significant for the trade and for fans tracking his next big screen moves.

In the last four years, Deol’s theatrical releases have included Chup: Revenge of the Artist in 2022, Gadar 2 in 2023, Jaat in 2025, and Border 2 in 2026. Among these, Gadar 2 emerged as the biggest turning point, reestablishing him at the centre of mainstream mass entertainers.

Looking ahead, Deol’s confirmed upcoming slate includes Gabru, Batwara 1947, Netflix film Ikka, and Ramayana: Part 1, in which he is set to portray Hanuman. Against that backdrop, Sharma’s decision to publicly back Gadar 3 does more than revive nostalgia. It places another high profile franchise film into one of the busiest and most closely watched phases of Deol’s recent career.
