Pushpa 2: The Rule has become the highest-grossing Indian film, surpassing Baahubali 2: The Conclusion with a worldwide gross of Rs 1,831 crore in just 32 days. The previous record holder, Baahubali 2, had earned Rs 1,810 crore over its entire run.
Pushpa 2 Becomes Highest-Grossing Indian Film Of All Time
Mythri Movie Makers shared this achievement on social media. They wrote, “#Pushpa2TheRule is now Indian Cinema’s INDUSTRY HIT with THE HIGHEST EVER COLLECTION FOR A MOVIE IN INDIA. The WILDFIRE BLOCKBUSTER crosses a gross of 1831 CRORES in 32 days worldwide.”
Pushpa 2 was released on December 5, 2024, & had a strong reception both in India and internationally. The film’s mass appeal and extensive marketing efforts played a major part in its success. Allu Arjun, reprising his role as Pushpa Raj, remains central to the film’s storyline.
The film opened with Rs 175 crore nett in India, including Rs 70.3 crore from its Hindi version and Rs 80.3 crore from Telugu-speaking regions. The Hindi version quickly overtook the Telugu version in terms of box office performance after the second day, showing its wide appeal.
The film also benefited from a large-scale promotional campaign, including a prominent trailer launch in Bihar, which helped connect with audiences in smaller areas.
Allu Arjun Starrer Also Faced Several Controversies
The film’s successful run has not been without controversy. There have been allegations of Pushpa 2 monopolising multiplex screens, which affected the screening of other films, like All We Imagine As Light.
A stampede incident at a Pushpa 2 screening in Hyderabad also attracted attention. Some claim that Allu Arjun’s arrest in connection with the incident led to increased publicity for the film.
Despite these issues, many agree that the success of Pushpa 2 was largely due to its audience appeal, which was established early on with Pushpa: The Rise in 2021.
