The box office run of Rahu Ketu is nearing its end, and the verdict is now beyond doubt. Despite bringing back the Fukrey duo of Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma, the film has failed to attract audiences in theatres and is headed towards a clear washout at the Indian box office.
After a dull opening week, Rahu Ketu showed no signs of recovery in its second weekend. The film collected only Rs 25 lakh across Saturday and Sunday, pushing its total India net collections to around Rs 5.75 crore. With weekday collections expected to be negligible from here on, the film is likely to conclude its entire theatrical run in the Rs 5.75 to Rs 6 crore range, sealing its fate as a box office disaster.
Rahu Ketu: Second weekend crash confirms disaster verdict
Rahu Ketu opened to a weak Rs 90 lakh on its first day, indicating limited initial interest. While the film managed to stay afloat during its first week, the trend remained flat throughout. The opening week closed at approximately Rs 5.50 crore net, which was already below expectations for a comedy featuring recognisable faces.
The second weekend, which usually offers some breathing space for mid budget entertainers, proved disastrous. Poor occupancy across multiplexes and negligible footfalls in mass belts ensured that the film failed to post any meaningful growth, leading to early replacement at several cinema chains.
Day wise box office collections of Rahu Ketu in India
India Net Collection
Opening Day: Rs 0.90 crore
Week 1 Total: Rs 5.50 crore
Second Weekend: Rs 0.25 crore
Total Collection: Rs 5.75 crore
On a comparative note, Rahu Ketu has performed marginally better than its rival releases, Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos and One Two Cha Cha Chaa. However, this relative advantage does little to change the overall outcome. The film has shown no upward movement in day to day collections, and trade expectations of a late surge have completely faded.
Rahu Ketu brings Fukrey pair back
Produced by Zee Studios, Rahu Ketu follows the journey of two eccentric characters who emerge from writer Churu Lal’s magical notebook and set out to retrieve it from the shrewd Meenu Taxi. Apart from Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma, the film stars Shalini Pandey, Chunky Pandey, Piyush Mishra, Manu Rishi Chadha, Amit Sial, and Sumit Gulati in pivotal roles.
Despite a quirky premise and a strong supporting cast, and Fukrey cast coming together, the film failed to connect with audiences, making Rahu Ketu another casualty in the crowded comedy genre this year.
