Luv Ranjan Confirms Ajay Devgn–Sanjay Dutt’s First-Ever Action Film Together, Ranger, Set to Release on December 4

After decades of sharing screen space across genres, two of Bollywood’s most formidable stars are finally stepping into an action film together. Filmmaker Luv Ranjan has officially confirmed that Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt will headline their first-ever full-fledged action outing, a high-scale action-adventure tentatively titled Ranger. The announcement has sparked major curiosity, given the actors’ long and varied cinematic history without a single pure action collaboration.

Luv Ranjan on the surprising Ajay Devgn–Sanjay Dutt pairing

Speaking about bringing Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt together in an action setup for the first time, Luv Ranjan admitted even he found the gap surprising. He said, “Ajay sir and Sanju sir have worked together so many times in these 25 years. Yet, they have never done an action film together. It is very shocking. It is extremely exciting that we’ll get to see them in an action film for the first time.”

This project marks the first instance where the two veterans will be positioned in an action-driven narrative, setting it apart from their earlier collaborations. The film will move the action deep into the wild for a story centered on the important issue of animal trafficking.

Ranger title and December 4 release date clarified

There has been considerable chatter around the film’s title, with Ranger doing the rounds in trade circles. Addressing the same, Luv Ranjan clarified, “Ranger is a tentative title. As usual, we are trying to figure out the correct title (laughs). The release is 11 months away. So, hopefully, by then, we’ll be able to find one.”

The plot revolves around a dangerous animal trafficking ring, and sources close to the project describe the film as having a feel similar to an Indiana Jones adventure. To bring this jungle world to life, the production is shooting on location in stunning international locales. A significant portion of the movie has already been filmed in Sri Lanka, which promises spectacular and authentic visuals for the audience.

On the release timeline, he confirmed the December 4 date, saying, “Yes, it’s true (that it would release on December 4).” The release date was earlier reported by Bollywood Hungama, whose interview with the filmmaker has now put all speculation to rest.

Why this film is a first despite years of collaborations

Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt have previously appeared together in romantic drama Mehbooba and multiple comedies including Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, All The Best, Rascals and Son Of Sardaar. They also featured in a comic cameo in Ready, while Sanjay Dutt made a special appearance in Ajay Devgn-led Raju Chacha.

Interestingly, although both actors have been part of large-scale action films such as LOC Kargil, Tango Charlie and Bhuj: The Pride Of India, they never shared screen space in those actioners. This makes Luv Ranjan’s upcoming film the first to truly pit them together in the genre audiences most associate them with.

Apart from this action-adventure, Luv Ranjan also spoke briefly about another major project from his banner, Cocktail 2. The sequel stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna. Without revealing plot details, he shared, “I am producing it with Dino (Dinesh Vijan). It is shaping up great. Homi Adajania is a superb director.”

With two high-profile projects in development, Luv Ranjan’s production slate continues to balance scale-driven cinema with star power.
