Sanam Teri Kasam Re-Release: Harshvardhan Rane’s Film Gets A Good Start But With Lot Of External Boost

Sanam Teri Kasam re-release has started strong on Day 1, but its momentum relies on sustaining organic demand.

Sanam Teri Kasam is back on the big screen after nine years. The 2016 romantic drama starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane re-released today (February 7).

Following the trend of Bollywood classics making a comeback, it joins films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, and Laila Majnu. The start looks strong, but the real challenge is staying steady.

Sanam Teri Kasam Re-release Opens Strong Due To Heavy External Push

Directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, it is expected to open around Rs 4 cr (estimated) on Day 1. However, a major chunk of this success comes from heavy external marketing rather than pure audience demand. The next few days will reveal if it can sustain itself or if the hype fizzles out.

Valentine’s Day is around the corner and the film has a prime window to attract viewers who are into love-story films. If word-of-mouth clicks, it could enjoy a steady run at the box office.

The re-release has generated strong pre-sales, with 67,000 tickets sold in top national chains for Day 1 alone. But it’s facing some serious box office heat. It’s clashing with Badass Ravi Kumar, Loveyapa, and even the re-release of Interstellar. With multiple films fighting for attention, it won’t be an easy ride for Sanam Teri Kasam.

About The Film

The story of Sanam Teri Kasam revolves around Inder Lal Parihaar, a troubled ex-convict and Saraswati “Saru” Parthasaarthy (a reserved librarian). Their love is intense, defying societal norms, but is ultimately marked by heartbreak.  The film has a runtime of 156 minutes and not too long.

Back in 2016, the film struggled commercially, earning just Rs 8 crore in India and Rs 15 crore globally. But over the years, it has found a dedicated fanbase.

Sanam Teri Kasam has transformed into a cult favourite for lovers of deep, emotional romances. Himesh Reshammiya’s soundtrack has played a huge role in keeping the film relevant, making it one of Bollywood’s most underrated love stories.
