John Abraham’s political thriller The Diplomat has quietly crossed Rs 35 crore at the Indian box office in three weeks. The film didn’t create massive buzz but held steady, and with added shows, it now aims for the Rs 40 crore milestone.
However, it might get kicked out of theatres soon as Sunny Deol starrer Jaat is set to release on April 10.
The Diplomat Maintains Momentum But Still On Low Levels
The Diplomat opened well and collected Rs 4.03 crore on day one, exceeding expectations. The word-of-mouth was positive, but the expected weekend surge didn’t happen. The film saw a slight rise on Saturday (Rs 4.68 crore) and Sunday (Rs 4.74 crore), but it wasn’t a major jump.
Monday brought the biggest challenge, with collections dropping sharply to Rs 1.53 crore, a 67.72% decline. However, the numbers remained stable through the weekdays, with only minor drops from Tuesday to Thursday. This consistency helped the film stay relevant despite not being a box office giant.
In the second and third weeks, the film experienced the usual declines but maintained a fair hold. A much-needed push came in the second weekend when Saturday collections nearly doubled Friday’s numbers. Film added 2.28 crore net over 4th weekend despite competition from new releases.
By the end of day 24, the film had collected Rs 37.71 crore net. While not a blockbuster figure, the steady weekday performance kept it alive longer than expected. With additional screenings planned in select cinemas, the film now eyes the Rs 40 crore mark.

About This Political Thriller
Unlike John Abraham’s usual action-heavy films, The Diplomat leans towards realism. Inspired by the true story of Uzma Ahmed, it follows J.P. Singh, an Indian diplomat who leads a high-stakes mission to rescue a woman trapped in a forced marriage in Pakistan.
John delivers a restrained yet gripping performance, stepping away from his typical action-hero persona. Sadia Khateeb brings emotional intensity to Uzma’s character, while Revathy, Kumud Mishra, and Sharib Hashmi add depth to the narrative.
