Toxic Overseas Box Office: Why Phars Film Is Staring At A Big Loss On Yash’s Rs 105 Crore Advance Deal

Yash‘s Toxic opened overseas with the kind of numbers that briefly justified its enormous pre-release hype, but the drop that followed has turned the film’s international run into a far more worrying story for distributor Phars Film. After a Day 1 overseas gross of about Rs 16.25 crore, the film slipped sharply, with Day 2 and Day 3 each coming in at roughly Rs 3.50 crore, taking its three-day overseas total to around Rs 23.25 crore.

The Overseas Drop Has Changed The Conversation

That trajectory is now the key issue. A strong opening can create confidence around a massive rights deal, but a steep early decline changes the economics very quickly. In Toxic‘s case, the fall from Rs 16.25 crore on opening day to Rs 3.50 crore by Day 3 translates to an almost 80 percent drop in just two days.

For a film carrying a record Rs 105 crore advance overseas deal across its Indian-language versions, that is the kind of trend that immediately puts pressure on recovery. The gap between the deal value and the film’s current earning pace is now impossible to ignore.

Why Phars Film Is Under Pressure

Phars Film came on board with one of the biggest pre-release international bets seen for an Indian title, backing Yash’s post-KGF global pull in a major way. The overseas rights acquisition, locked at Rs 105 crore, reflected confidence that Toxic could deliver a long, high-grossing run across key international markets.

Instead, the early run has suggested the opposite. Based on the present trend, Toxic is nowhere near the kind of sustained momentum required for a deal of this scale to look comfortable. The film now appears headed toward a significant shortfall against that advance, which is why the overseas story has shifted from pre-release excitement to damage control.

A separate North America breakeven target of $6.5 million had also underlined how ambitious the film’s overseas expectations were. At the moment, the numbers point to a much tougher road ahead.

What Toxic Is And Who Backs It

Toxic, subtitled A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, is directed by Geethu Mohandas and stars Yash in a dual role. The cast also includes Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Akshay Oberoi. The period gangster film is produced by KVN Productions and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations.

The film has been mounted as one of the biggest projects of Yash’s career, with a scale and international distribution push designed to match his pan-Indian and overseas appeal.

Yash’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Yash was last seen on the big screen in K.G.F: Chapter 2 in 2022, a blockbuster that cemented his reach well beyond Kannada cinema. Since then, Toxic has become his first release after a long gap and easily his most closely watched project in the post-KGF phase.

Looking ahead, Yash is also attached to Ramayana: Part 1, slated for 2026, where he is associated with one of Indian cinema’s biggest upcoming event films. That makes the performance of Toxic especially significant, because it is the first real test of his box office pull after the KGF high.
