Rishab Shetty’s endorsement of Toxic has given the film an added stamp of industry approval. The filmmaker-actor praised Yash for going all in on a demanding role and described the film as a “daring experiment,” turning his reaction into one of the strongest responses yet from within Kannada cinema.
Rishab Shetty’s Praise For Yash Stands Out
In his post on X, Rishab made it clear that what struck him most was the emotional intensity behind the performance. He wrote, “As an artist, when you play a character, you try to bring it to life from the bottom of your heart. And here, I am truly impressed by the conviction with which the struggle of a powerful man has been portrayed.”
He also defended the film’s unconventional narrative style, stressing that mainstream expectations should not define artistic choices. “Maybe the plot and driving characters are not on the usual track on which most films travel, but that doesn’t mean the track is wrong,” he added.
The strongest praise, however, was reserved for Yash’s total immersion in the role. Tagging the star, Rishab wrote, “Hats off to the way you have surrendered yourself to a character and a world that demands a larger-than-life performance. I could clearly feel that in every single scene.” He also praised Yash’s larger contribution to the industry, writing, “We love you for the love you have for taking Kannada cinema to the global stage.”
Inside Toxic’s Dark World
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is set in post-independence Goa during the final decades of Portuguese rule, spanning the 1940s to the 1970s. The film unfolds inside a stylised coastal noir crime world shaped by an international opium and drug trade connecting India and Macau.
At the centre is Raya, a ruthless gangster whose rise is fuelled by violence, ambition, and betrayal. The story uses a non linear structure to track his ascent, family tensions, and eventual collapse. Yash plays a double role as Raya and his son Rumi, also known as Ticket. The cast also includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Darrell D’Silva, and Akshay Oberoi.
With the film now out in theatres, attention naturally turns to what Toxic means within Yash’s evolving screen journey.

Yash’s Recent And Upcoming Work
For Yash, Toxic marked his first release since K.G.F: Chapter 2, which arrived in 2022 and became one of the biggest commercial successes of his career. Before that, he headlined K.G.F: Chapter 1 in 2018, the film that turned him into a pan India star and dramatically expanded his reach beyond Kannada cinema.
With Toxic released on August 26, 2026, focus has already shifted to Ramayana, where Yash is set to play Ravana. The project remains one of the most closely watched films in his line-up and signals the next chapter in a career that has steadily moved toward bigger, more visible national titles.
