Two decades after its initial release, Veer-Zaara proves that timeless love stories never go out of style. To mark its 20th anniversary, Shah Rukh Khan’s beloved classic returned to cinemas & drew enthusiastic crowds overseas.
Veer-Zaara Latest Re-Release Collects Outstanding Rs 5 Cr Worldwide
The film, which hit screens last Thursday, raked in an impressive Rs 1.5 crore (USD 185,000) in just one weekend. This re-release follows a successful run earlier this year in India, where it brought in Rs 3.75 crore.
Altogether, the film’s return to the big screen has contributed over Rs 5 crore globally in 2024 alone.
Germany & Canada Lead In The Film’s Overseas Re-release
The overseas re-release witnessed Veer-Zaara’s strongest reception in Germany, a market where Shah Rukh Khan has historically had a dedicated fan base.
Over the weekend, the film collected €25,000 from just 25 limited screenings. This renewed interest highlights the special connection German audiences have with SRK and Veer-Zaara, which was one of the first Bollywood films to gain a significant foothold in non-traditional markets back in the 2000s.
For a film that helped break new ground in international markets, it’s a nostalgic victory to see German fans flock to cinemas once again.
Canada also showed its love for the timeless romance, pulling in CAD 43,000 across just 10 theatres over the weekend. According to local reports, key locations in Toronto and Surrey were packed, with screenings quickly selling out and fans still eager for tickets.
Despite limited shows, the strong pre-sales for weekday screenings indicate that the film’s re-release could stretch its successful run. Industry insiders suggest that with spillover demand, Veer-Zaara might even reach CAD 100,000 in the coming days if more shows are added.
