Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe is already running out of road at the box office. Just 10 days into its theatrical run, the spy comedy has slowed to Rs 13 crore nett in India, a figure that leaves the film heading toward a disaster verdict and nowhere near the kind of post release momentum Kemmu enjoyed with Madgaon Express.
That weak trajectory became clearer over the second weekend, when Vibe added Rs 2.50 crore nett and pushed its total to Rs 13 crore. After closing its first week at Rs 10.50 crore, the film needed a much stronger second weekend jump to stay in the race. Instead, the hold remained soft, and the current trend now points to a lifetime finish in the Rs 14.50 crore range.
Second Weekend Trend Hurts Vibe
The second weekend alone summed up the film’s struggle. Vibe collected Rs 0.70 crore on day 8, followed by Rs 0.90 crore on day 9 and Rs 0.90 crore on day 10. That is a 65 per cent drop from the previous weekend, a sharp decline for a film that needed word of mouth to do the heavy lifting after release.
The fall matters more because the film had started with enough visibility to suggest a steadier run. But audience response never translated into the kind of sustained footfalls that can rescue a mid range theatrical performer. By the end of its second weekend, Vibe had slipped into a zone where recovery looks increasingly unlikely.
Madgaon Express Comparison Becomes Unavoidable
The harshest comparison for Vibe comes from inside Kemmu’s own directing filmography. His 2024 debut Madgaon Express finished its India run at Rs 38.47 crore nett and emerged as a theatrical success, creating a strong first benchmark for his work behind the camera.
By contrast, Vibe has not managed to touch even half of that total after two weekends. One third of Madgaon Express works out to a little over Rs 12.82 crore, which means Vibe only moved past that mark in its second weekend. That says plenty about the gap between the two films in terms of audience pull and staying power.

That is what makes Vibe’s box office slide more significant for Kemmu. He came into this release with real goodwill after Madgaon Express, which established him as a filmmaker to watch beyond his acting career. Instead of building on that breakthrough, Vibe now looks set to become a clear theatrical setback.
As an actor director, Kemmu’s recent phase has been defined most strongly by Madgaon Express in 2024 and now Vibe in 2026. Looking ahead, his announced slate includes an untitled Madgaon Express sequel in development, while Go Goa Gone 2 and the series Gulkanda Tales remain among the projects associated with his next career move.
