The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) demanded Netflix to pull down its recent release, Bombay Begums. Apparently, NCPCR finds some scenes from the series featuring the youngest protagonist (Aadhya Anand) questionable.
Two Twitter handle reportedly raised the concern on Alankrita Shrivastava’s show and put it under NCPCR’s scanner.
NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo is quoted as saying, “We have sought stopping the streaming of Bombay Begums over the inappropriate portrayal of children in the series.’’
The notice has given 24 hours to the streaming platform the remove the show. However, there is no response from Netflix’s side yet.
An actor from the show was quoted as saying, “The ‘inappropriate portrayal of children’ is such a nebulous term. Is the Commission aware of what goes on at the rave parties that teenagers regularly attend? In order to begin to solve the problems that plague our society we must first address those problems. And to address those problems we must first show them on screen. Right? No point in pretending they don’t exist.”
