What will happen in Money Heist Season 5, Fans discuss theories after Netflix drops the release date!

The makers have decided to split the story into two separate volumes, and both will come with a slightly different tone. Volume 1 will be released on September 3 and volume 2 will be released on December 3, 2021.

Amidst huge anticipation, Netflix dropped an announcement teaser for Money Heist Season 5 yesterday, that has left fans wanting for more. Season 5 is releasing after a long gap, since the shoot was put on hold amid pandemic.

The makers have decided to split the story into two separate volumes, and both will come with a slightly different tone. Volume 1 will be released on September 3 and volume 2 will be released on December 3, 2021.

Álex Pina, the show’s creator, explained the reasoning behind this in an official statement, “When we began to write Part 5 in the midst of the pandemic, we felt that we had to change what was expected from the ten-episode season and used every tool we could to create the sensation of a season finale or series finale in the first volume itself. We decided to work in an extremely aggressive genre, putting The Gang on the ropes. In volume 2, we focus more on the emotional situation of the characters. It is a journey across their sentimental map that connects us directly to their departure.”

Here’s the teaser in case you missed –

Returning actors confirmed for the new season include: Úrsula Corberó (Tokyo), Álvaro Morte (The Professor) , Itziar Ituño (Lisbon), Miguel Herrán (Rio), Jaime Lorente (Denver), Esther Acebo (Stockholm), Enrique Arce (Arturo), Darko Peric (Helsinki), Hovik Keuchkerian (Bogotá), Luka Peros (Marseille), Belén Cuesta (Manila), Fernando Cayo (Coronel Tamayo), Rodrigo de la Serna (Palermo), Najwa Nimri (Inspector Sierra), José Manuel Poga (Gandía), and Pedro Alonso (Berlín).

One character who won’t be returning, however, is Nairobi (Alba Flores) who was killed in season four.

Money Heist Season 5 : What will happen?

(WARNING: Contains spoilers)

This is the official plot synopsis, released by Netflix –

“The gang has been shut in the Bank of Spain for over 100 hours. They have managed to rescue Lisbon, but their darkest moment is upon them after losing one of their own. The Professor has been captured by Sierra and, for the first time, doesn’t have an escape plan. Just when it seems like nothing else could go wrong, an enemy comes on the scene that is much more powerful than any they’ve faced: the army. The end of the greatest heist in history is approaching, and what began as a robbery will turn into a war.”

But there’s more to it, according to fans –

An old acquaintance of criminal mastermind The Professor (Álvaro Morte), Palermo joined the team as an engineer at the start of Money Heist’s third season. However, he sparked friction by talking Gandía (José Manuel Poga) into freeing himself, leading to the death of Nairobi (Alba Flores).

Although Palermo has since made it back onto the crew, the first clips of season five have led some fans to speculate that he’ll be making a tragic sacrifice to ensure his teammates’ survival. He could be the first of many fatalities in this season.

Midway through the sensational new teaser, Palermo is seen running through a corridor, pursued by heavily armed police. The armoured guards take shots at the fleeing robber, whilst Palermo turns around and desperately brandishes his own weapon.

After dissecting the new trailer frame-by-frame, most Money Heist fans were in agreement that the first moments of Palermo’s brutal death sequence had been revealed.

Once the footage had been released, viewers flooded message boards to post their theories for the popular crime drama’s upcoming conclusion.

On Reddit, one fan wrote: “So I guess Palermo really will sacrifice himself for the gang, or at least that’s what I’m getting from the trailer.”

Several fans noticed echoes of Berlin’s (Pedro Alonso) sacrifice at the end of season two.

Especially considering his role in Nairobi’s death and Gandía’s freedom, Palermo has the perfect opportunity to redeem himself in the eyes of fans by going out with a bang.

A second commenter said: “The part where Palermo is getting shot is so heroic yet so sad.”

To which a third replied: “He’s going to go out the way Berlin went out maybe? That would be poetic.”
