Warner Bros. have finally set the release date of the Wonka prequel for 2023. It will hit the theaters on March 17, 2023. The story will be focused on the origin story of the chocolate factory owner.

Wonka has reportedly been in the development process for four years now. Paddington Filmmaker Paul King and Harry Potter producer David Heyman will direct the whole project.

The script is co written by Simon Farnaby. The studio describes it as focusing on “a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.”

In the past, Gene Wilder played Willy Wonka in the 1971 release of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Johnny Depp brought the character to life again in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which hit the cinemas in 2005.
