At the trailer launch event of Thandel, starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi, Aamir Khan and South producer Allu Aravind dropped a major hint about Ghajini 2. The event, held on Friday, got fans talking as the two stars sparked fresh excitement around the much-discussed sequel to the 2008 hit.
Is Ghajini 2 Finally Happening?
The buzz around Ghajini 2 has been picking up pace. During the event, Allu Aravind teased, “I should make a Rs 1000 crore film with you. Maybe Ghajini 2.” Aamir Khan acknowledged and responded, “A lot on the net has been going around Ghajini 2.” His comment instantly caught attention and had fans hoping for the sequel.
There have been reports suggesting that Aravind plans to release the sequel in both Tamil and Hindi. The Tamil version might feature Suriya in the lead, while Aamir Khan would reprise his role for the Hindi version. If true, fans could be treated to two massive stars in the same film.
Suriya’s Take On Ghajini 2
Suriya recently spoke to Pinkvilla and confirmed that discussions about Ghajini 2 are indeed happening. He shared, “It’s surprising that you asked me about Ghajini 2 now. After a long time, Allu Aravind approached me with the idea of a sequel and asked if it would be possible. I said, ‘Definitely, sir, we can consider it.’ Yes, the talks have started, and things are in process. Ghajini 2 might happen.”
However, both Suriya and Aamir Khan are reportedly cautious about the project. An insider shared, “With the rise of pan-India films, remakes of cult classics have become tricky. They don’t want to label the film as a ‘remake’. They also fear releasing one version before the other might kill the excitement. To solve this, Aravind and Madhu Mantena suggested filming both versions at the same time and releasing them on the same day.”
Sequel Will Have A Pressure To Deliver The Perfect Sequel
Given the success of the original Ghajini, the sequel comes with high expectations. The 2008 film, directed by AR Murugadoss, was a massive hit, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of the year.
It also marked Aamir Khan’s unforgettable role as Sanjay Singhania, a businessman with short-term memory loss. The film’s success was a game-changer, being the first Bollywood film to cross Rs 100 crore at the box office.
Now, both Aamir and Suriya are said to be committed to making sure the sequel feels just as fresh and impactful. As one source mentioned, “Creating a sequel to a cult classic comes with a lot of responsibility. Our priority is to ensure the sequel feels organic.”
The script is still in the works, and fans will have to wait for more updates. With a Rs 1000 crore budget reportedly on the table, Ghajini 2 is shaping up to be a massive project.
