After three decades of their last collaboration, Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Santoshi are teaming up again for a two-movie deal that has created a buzz in the film industry. The first project in this venture will feature the versatile Sunny Deol in the lead role, who has recently impressed the audience with his performance in “Gadar 2“.
This will be Deol’s fourth film with Santoshi, who has directed him in blockbuster hits like “Damini“, “Ghayal“, and “Ghatak“. Deol and Santoshi parted ways after a reported bitter fallout after their third movie in 1996. However, they had a fallout over creative differences and did not collaborate for a long time. Now, it seems that they have buried the hatchet and are ready to work together again.
Film is based on an acclaimed Punjabi play
The film is tentatively titled as “Jisne Lahore Nahi Dekha” and is based on the acclaimed Punjabi play, “Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Nai” by Asghar Wajahat, which depicts the tragic aftermath of the 1947 India-Pakistan partition. The story revolves around a Muslim family from Lucknow who migrates to Lahore, where they inherit a haveli that belongs to a Hindu family who has left for India. However, they face a dilemma when an elderly Hindu woman refuses to leave the haveli and claims her right to stay there. The film explores the themes of identity, belonging, and humanity in the midst of violence and chaos.
The film has been a long-awaited dream for Santoshi, who had initially planned it with Anil Kapoor more than a decade ago but faced several hurdles. He tried again in 2018 with Sunny Deol, but could not secure enough budget. Finally, with the backing of Aamir Khan Productions and Jio Studios, the film has got the green light.
Announcement and shoot timelines
Aamir Khan is likely to announce his collaboration with Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol on Sunny Deol’s birthday on October 19, 2023. The film will be produced by Aamir Khan Productions and will go on floors in January.

The film is expected to go on floors in January 2024. The film will have an ensemble cast alongside Sunny Deol, and the casting for other important roles is currently underway.
“Sunny and Rajkumar Santoshi have been discussing a probable collaboration for a while now, and with Aamir Khan on board as a producer, the film is on track to go on floors. Aamir is a creative force to reckon with and he has loved what Rajkumar Santoshi developed for Sunny Deol. The trio is looking to take the film on floors around December/January 2024,” revealed a source close to the development.
“Aamir, Santoshi, and Sunny had a long meeting and have come on the same page with regard to finances and shooting timelines. The 3-month marathon shooting is expected to begin in January,” the source shared. On calling it a wrap on the Sunny Deol film, Rajkumar Santoshi will begin his work on his next which has Aamir Khan in lead role.
Film gets a whopping offer from an OTT giant
According to Zoom, an OTT giant has offered Rs 95 crore to the makers for the film’s exclusive rights. Looks like the massive success of Gadar 2 has added to Sunny Deol‘s popularity. This offer shows the excitement around the film considering that the film hasn’t been announced and shoot has also not begun.
The film is described as a dramatic action film that will showcase the historical events and emotions of the partition era. It will also mark the reunion of Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Santoshi, who have previously worked together in cult classics like “Andaz Apna Apna” and “Lajja”. The second project in their deal is yet to be announced, but it is speculated that Aamir Khan will star in it as an actor. Aamir Khan is also gearing up for his next film, a sports drama based on the Spanish hit “Campeones”, which will be directed by RS Prasanna.
